Great win for Murray - best way to win his first major...he'll never have to play any harder for a win. Congrats to Scotland!

Sports personality of the year is going to be hard to call - at this stage I'm sticking with my original thought of Bradley Wiggins, but there are a few who could easily win and I wouldn't be suprised.

Wiggins actually has a personality, but he doesn't like to be in the limelight, so I have to agree it's going to be a difficult one to call between him and Murray. Their achievements have gone above and beyond "just" Olympic Gold, so everyone else will be competing for bronze.

Even before last night - and being a cyclist as well - I still wouldn't have had Wiggo on top spot for SPOTY, that would have been too much, 2 years in a row. My top spot was Jessica Ennis as the covergirl of the Olympics.

Now I think Andy Murray is a shoein for top spot on SPOTY. Wimbledon, Olympics, USOpen.

We'll have to see if the RyderCup team batter the US to see who wins the team prize.

2013 is going to be so dull.

Well done Andy Murray. I listened to 5live on the laptop while tinkering with sites until 2am. Knackered!

I used to think the same after the whole him hating England thing but I heard an interview on Talk sport were he explained exactly what he did say and how 99% of what was printed following that was tabloid bull s**t unsurprisingly.

Still think hes a bit of a miserable git who needs a haircut but you have to say well done on finally winning a slam its been a great summer for British sporting achievement nice he could keep the momentum going

    Well Done Andy

Why is it that we make out as if these sports people are some sort of major superstars and heroes, the real heroes are the guys and girls fighting in afghanistan.

Please take your brown tounges out of these jumped up celebrites :D

The real heroes are the doctors and nurses who work night and day for the NHS.

Some have the capicity to appreciate multiple things at once and for different reasons - it's not a case of all your respect being focused on one subject at a time. Maybe for some it is...?

Its the media thats made him a celebrity, he himself is a professional tennis player who has tried, in his own words, for 10 years to win a grand slam. Not only is it the first British win for 76 years, but he also won gold at the Olympics which, (by the way) the UK did a fantastic job of hosting.

I think the whole thing is pretty good, and good for morale in a time of cutbacks, austerity and financial worries.
