    Good morning folks,

I've just been watching BBC world news, which I have on in the background every morning. Apparently, at 7.30pm GMT tomorrow, a sizeable chunk of rock going at quite a rate of knots is going to skim so close to the earth it may take out some satellites.

Reassuringly, the news presenter has just said "NASA officials say the asteroid is not expected to hit us". I don't know about anyone else, but in my life its the things that I wasn't expecting that caused me the biggest problems!

Very poor reporting. The information I've seen has said there's NO chance of it hitting Earth (i.e. literally 0%)

I read an article some years ago that asteroids, unlike simple rocks, have a recorded history of dichotomizing when they come under the gravitational pull of planets they are approaching, and that this is the very reason that NASA and the Near Earth Asteroid Tracking Team prefer not to give 100% reassurances! :(

No, it can't (not with the naked eye). Also worth noting they said "pm" not "am" :)

Well Murray, get your sausages out, because if this thing gets any closer you'll be able to BBQ them!

EDIT: I changed my OP to 'tomorrow' as I thought today was Friday, sorry about that!

Your concerns are well understood but best advice appears to be try not to worry about it.

It's certainly no laughing matter, and frivolity isn't called for here. The latest news is that Findus are being investigated in respect of their fish fingers containing sea horse.

I've heard that their fish fingers don't contain any fingers. Shocking.

I agree. It's now been reported that the horseburgers are contaminated with donkey meat. Simply not acceptable!

It is a desperate nightmare. I went to the fridge to take out some beefburgers "and they're off".
