I see a lot of sales where the prices really surprise me & then I think "well maybe I'm not asking for enough"

For instance a domain like Connected co uk £80k

If I owned the domain I would of thought it was nice, but possibly the poorer cousin of connect co uk

I would of been very happy with 2k, I wouldn't have dreamed of asking for anywhere near 80k.

Maybe I should set all the domains I personally really like to 30k+ ? and hope something comes along one day :p

Great name though, guess it depends if you know who the buyer is and research their company and why they might need it. If its for a rebrand of their current business then its possible to reach 6 figures although it is a risk you take.

For example the new owner also owns protected.co.uk and has it running as a life insurance website.

30k plus co.uk name sales are very few and far between.

Higher value sales occur when a potential buyer wants a domain name much more than the owner wants to keep it.

Otherwise it's finding a happy medium between buyer and seller, and that's going to vary considerably depending on numerous possible circumstances.

It's about how much the seller is willing to keep saying "no" again and again and again until the right offer comes along (if it ever does). Different business model - but I guess it can be quite lucrative if they have deep enough pockets to support the renewals between the rare "jackpot" sales, and the portfolio depth to attract the buyers in the first place.

You caught alm.co.uk, wow!. Must of been about 30 people after that?. You must have a pretty decent script.

What makes a quality domain is when there are few or no alternatives to it. In which case there is more chance of a lucrative buyer coming along.
What of course has happened over the last few years is domains being registered with numerous alternatives for the buyer, so it pushes the price down.

    "I want that one"

Agree! Sometimes we have to be flexible. If we get an offer, we should not keep negotiating for the higher price too much. There could be only one or two people who really want to buy your domain. Once you miss him, you miss him! You will not hear back from him again even though you email him back. A few months ago, someone made an offer for finnish dot mobi with $150, and I just let it go because it's so hard now to sell dot mobi. I thought this was a good deal already.
