    any-web

They have all those city/town/village domains that yet they continue to have some crappy 'portal' on each of them which is of no use to anyone.

    Whats the point?

    Grrrrrr

    LOL

Think she said she'd had a family and was looking to sell them off a few at a time each year...

Do a member search and her post should come up somewhere...

    domains

Parking's one thing , they're not even parked. They need to be developed or sold or something.
it's one thing parking an average domain. to do nothing with either great domains like this is a mindblowing wasted opportunity.
the world cup in Germany has come & gone & his site would have been visited by millions no doubt wanting to find out more about the world cup & Germany etc
can you not see it's a waste?
what would you do with germany.com for example?
the other thing is i've always disliked parking really. it's never got me a lot of revenue. i like developing my best names or actively selling them on to someone who could use it & in turn get me a profit too.
when great domains are being used like the germany.com site it's a bit like seeing a lovely old building wasting away, walking past seeing the potential.
i know lots of people feel like this.

What would I do with germany.com?...probably park it and wait for a nice offer to come along.

Anyweb hold all these city names, places etc good for them for having the initiative to do that in the first place...I recently caught Yeovil .co.uk, guess what...it's parked as I know bugger all about Yeovil, never been there in my life.

To be honest I don't care what the people of Yeovil think about that, if they want to develop the name into something which isn't considered a waste they can make an offer and buy it. :)

You say you dislike parking, it's never really made you any money...would it be a different story if it did?...I love parking, it's one of my main sources of income and funds the purchase of more and more domains, unfortunately I don't have time to sit and develop 100's of websites then maintain them all so this is the next best thing.

This is an excellent example how some people have different beliefs and better life valuables than money. Domains aren't only about buying/selling or developing. People express themselves anyhow they prefer without worrying about lost earnings. It's just great.

I'd adore to stick my cat on my most visited domain, alas can't afford to do this. Yet.

    Hi vizzy,
it's a nice utopian thought & agree with you in some ways. what's more likely though is financially he/she hasn't got a care in the world & can 'afford' to do nothing.
he could advertise for sale. sell for $x,xxx, xxx no doubt & give a percentage to charity. now that would be great. having said that he could just be a fruitcake living on a shoestring. who knows?!!! :-D
anyway spent enough time on this, need to try & pay my own bills. not looking good this month!

    Everything has its price.

By stating so categorically that Germany.com isn't for sale, the owner is protecting themselves more vigorously against any WIPO action aimed at "reclaiming" the domain (not that it would succeed necessarily, but more than one country has had a go at getting "their" domain back).

At the same time, if somebody came along with a bona-fide offer for (e.g.) $1,000,000 my guess is that the owner of the domain would quietly sell it and head off into the sunset with the money.

fair comment about the world cup, I know another world cup domain was making $2000 a day on pure typeins in season. Not sure if germany.com would have done that well, but it would still have made a packet.

Was it New Zealand (the government) that tried to Wipo the owner of 'their' .com...and lost?

In the end they bought it for x,xxx, xxx if I remember correctly. Germany.com might be worth more. What about deutschland.com?
