    Hey guys,

I regged a couple of .coms and I am undecided on which to keep and develop and which to sell.

    FileCloudHost.com
Quite generic, but does what it says on the tin. Cloud is the 5th most popular regged term atm too.

    CloudHostClick.com
More brandable (I see a 3 easy steps kind of thing - blah, blah and click!) Plus I think it has more of a cool sound when said loud. Also has the essential keywords at the start of the domain.

Thats my thoughts, but I would love to know what you guys think.

    Cheers

I think you would have trouble selling these domains imo

Spot on. Neither is likely to sell.

Thats all very well, but its not really much help to fellow newbies is it? :p

I never said I thought they were valuble, I was just wanting some constructive feedback.

I personally think filecloudhost.com has something to offer as cloud host is a strong generic term and you host files in clouds...your go. :D

It's not really a good combo, sounds awkward.

If you google it in quotes "file cloud host" there are four results and none of them even use it in succession.

But that (google) would be looking for an exact match to the domain wouldn't it?

I didnt want an EMD because I think they sound boring. I have seen some domainers offer co.uk emds that have over 20 chars for high XXX.

I honestly have confidence in my domain names to fetch at least the reg fee, if nothing else (mainly based on the crap I have seen get sold over time).

Because I have seen worse go for a decent sum of cash.

    Define "valuable"?

Could be the sale price vs the reg price.

Could be a new start up just out looking at this time and see such a name in the market for a fair price based on what they want to pay and what the seller wants and matches their marketing ideas and aspirations.

    Who knows.

I do know "no value, sorry." doesnt really help people out to understand why.

I do appreciate the follow up answer that give constructive feedback (the sound on the tongue), its great feedback and helps me (and anybody else who reads this thread) looking to gain some perception and experience

    Thanks

If you're trying to sell as brandable then it will be like playing the lotto on Saturday with a lucky dip, with similar chance and odds.

The phrase isn't searched upon and isn't used to describe a product or service. Isn't a phrase of familiarity either.

So you are going to need to find someone who in 20 years haven't wanted the names (whilst cloud domains were snapped up in their thousands) but all of a sudden do.

It will be this, and experience, that you are getting these valuations. No-one could predict the one person who may want this as a brand, but market value taking all of the above in to consideration would be £0

Also when people are asking for a valuation it generally isn't for reg fee or low to mid £xx - you may get an impulse buy on DNF - but to the nearest £1,000 (or even multiples of £500) it's worth £0

    Hey cc976a,

that's fair enough, I understand aiming to sell as a brand is hardcore and very much a pure stroke of luck and comes with silly odds.

However I dispute about the "searchability". Cloud hosting is popular whilst I agree its very low search volume, I dont understand why such buyer wouldnt aim for to target prime keywords on site. "cloud hosting" 18,100 searches global or file hosting - same amount. I agree its not massive search volume, but still, its perfectly achievable imo.

You can get something like "joe bloggs" ranking for terms like "web design" or "car sales man" etc. Does that make sense?

"So you are going to need to find someone who in 20 years haven't wanted the names (whilst cloud domains were snapped up in their thousands) but all of a sudden do."

A newcomer? Somebody who wasnt around at the time?

Thanks for your feedback though, I do honestly appreciate it.

I think I'll self develop one and see how it goes. I have had some small success with a hosting niche site so would be good to apply the lessons I learned there, to one of these.

Sorry, I find it hard to be constructive when I can see literally ZERO value in a name (not "a little value", ZERO value). There's no point in pretending to see value where there's none - that's not going to get you anywhere.

If you're going for a brandable rather than an EMD, then I would stick with a 2 word domain. You've created something that looks a bit like a "poor man's EMD" i.e. a mish-mash of terms around the topic, but which doesn't actually mean anything.

Either aim for an EMD, or go the whole hog "brandable" and go for something that doesn't necessarily mean anything at all, but which is eye-catching and memorable.

If you're working on building a brandable, you may find it useful to use a rhyming dictionary such as http://www.rhymer.com/ or http://www.rhymezone.com/ (not that brandables have to rhyme, but the right rhyme might increase the appeal since it makes it that much easier to remember)

Thanks very much Edwin, that is stellar feedback.

I definitely think my issue is I am trying to find the middle ground between the two, when maybe I should focus one way, or the other.
Those links are new to me, so bookmarked and thanks again. I appreciate it.

Yep good solid advice from Edwin. You can get away with three words when

    1. They are needed for clarity or understanding
    2. It is the recognised descriptive
3 It is a clever or humorous word play

Two words (even contrived as a pair) can have appeal - but that is pretty much the limit
