Nominet is announcing the departure of Lesley Cowley OBE as CEO. The Nominet Board acknowledges the contribution Lesley has made to establish Nominet as a widely respected domain name registry over the last 15 years.
Rennie Fritchie DBE, Nominet Chair, said: "Under Lesley's leadership, Nominet has earned a well-deserved reputation for excellent service, and Lesley has played a leading role within the internet sector and wider IT world. The Board thanks Lesley for her dedication and commitment, and for her achievement in making the UK namespace a trusted online home for the millions who use it."
Lesley Cowley said: "After 15 years at Nominet, it is now the right time to move on. It has been a privilege to lead Nominet for the past 12 years and I am incredibly proud of our achievements in that time. It is the staff team that make Nominet so special and I would like to especially thank each of them for their amazing efforts over the last decade and a half."
Lesley leaves us on the 9th July. Nominet will now begin a search for a new CEO who will lead the company through its next phase of development.
In the meantime, the Company will be run by a leadership team - the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Technology Officer and the Chief Commercial Officer, working closely with the Nominet Chair.

So we can do without the CEO but we can't do without some accounts dude ?

Hmmm push or a shove or tired of all the battles... GW care to comment ;) !!

I'm wondering if she's been offered a top job at ICANN wasn't she on the shortlist for a post

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish her the best of luck with whatever she chooses to do next.

Regardless of our marked differences of opinion at times, Lesley was always willing to take time out to have a friendly chat at conferences and AGMs. It's perfectly possible to be at loggerheads yet remain professional, and I greatly appreciate her taking an interest.

I'm sure she's reading this and will therefore note your kind remarks. :p I first met her in Southampton back in late 2003. Nominet then was miniscule in comparison to the Nominet of today. I shall be interested to see if she remains in the domain name industry and also whether she will attend domain name related events as an independent guest speaker in the future. :)

News of this will be tomorrows' chip paper.

I'm watching the MUFC web site, just in case!

Chris you are entitled to your opinion but the above is all that is (i.e your opinion). I'm not going to spend my time going through your essay line by line and asking you to backup your opinions with any sort of evidence because I doubt you will. Unfortunately without evidence it is likely to be taken as just your opinion. Feel free to attach or link us directly to anything supporting the elements of what you've said. Those that like an intellectual debate may take more of an interest. :)

The "hate" theme is getting a tad dull but for the record I don't hate you at all. :)

I got absolutely murdered by you and that doddering old duffer for daring to put in my marketing emails that owning the .co.uk would guarantee the buyer the new .UK version. I just KNEW that I was right. I notice that not a single one of the all the clueless cretins attacking the post have added to it saying "Chris was right all along". But one wouldn't expect that. Haters hate. That what haters do.

You can't officially offer something until it's been officially announced though.

You ending up being right makes no difference.

Can't count your chickens before they've hatched and try and sell them.

os. Your post was a good/interesting read though thanks :p

Agreed... it was a ridiculous sales pitch to guarantee something when you didn't have any idea whether it could be delivered on. Being right after the fact doesn't change that...

...but after I received a written opinion from a QC that I had no case to answer, I contacted the Met and offered to fly back to the UK and make myself available for interview. I then contacted them again a few weeks later as I had a week booked in the UK for various meetings and wanted to get the interview on record.

The Metropolitan Police replied that they had already examined the case and that they and the CPS had decided that they didn't even need to interview me and had already closed the case! Strong case you had there Lesley and Nick!

I am sure many here would be interested to read a copy of the written opinion by your QC. Would you care to link us to a copy? :)

...For all the haters, I've made many predictions over the years and some pathetic worthless little prigs have dissected each sentence bullet point by bullet point to attack me. I have a suggestion for you David. Why don't you go back over my various predictions and tell me a single one where I was wrong?

I got absolutely murdered by you...

Really? Where so? Here's a link to the response I made in the thread where many others criticised your spamming. I didn't even address the spamming. I note that you have't replied to anything I did post in that thread to date. Usual Chris Holland inaccuracies and fantasies, is it? :)

her entire frumpy body

I've read and re-read this diatribe and still the phrase that I object to most is the description of Lesley Cowley as 'frumpy'. When will some kinds of men stop using a woman's physical appearance or dress sense as a put down? Or a 'phoar' moment? What does Ms Cowley's appearance have to do with her part in the management of Nominet?
