Can we all sing its a self preservation society while reading this report...

    2013-2014 Growth 0.7%
    2012-2013 Growth 3.6%
    2011-2012 Growth 5.6%

Renewal Rate remains near enough constant around 2/3.

Nominet approve increased pay and bonuses inspite of this.

Argh I didn't notice the minus sign, it's on the line above.

    Even worse than I thought.

    2013-2014 Growth -0.7%
    2012-2013 Growth 3.6%
    2011-2012 Growth 5.6%

A indication of a non rising economy?

I think if you take the London statistics out of the government figures the economy will stll be flatlined. (at best)

I know of no-one who has the "feel good" factor.

.uk killed most the growth, most of my negotiations flatline soon as I mention .uk than have over the last 10yrs.

While sales have been ok (spread over the yr), I can't help but think without .uk I'd be havihavin bumper year.

I reckon if you charted month by month growth and decline it would tie into .uk quite closely.

If it was a flat economy surely you'd see some effect in renewals too ?

The recession started in 2008 but I believe the register continued to grow strongly. I don't think the economy can be blamed.

You're right. I just checked and renewals were surprisingly up slightly from the year before.
    (2012-2013)

    So no big dip there.

I think the numbers may be more indicative of the state of the domain economy than the economy as a whole - i.e. as a result of domainers thinning down their portfolios and speculating less. The combination of Nominet's insistence of launching .uk and Google's algorithm updates have each brought about a lot of uncertainty and made investing in domains more risky. Google of course would be quite happy if domains lose some of their importance as they want everyone to find websites by their search facility. Leslie Cowley is probably quite happy too as she's picked up her bonuses and jumped ship.

I have noticed various portfolio owners letting many of their domains expire. Each day I see loads of reasonably good domains that in the past I would have picked up but now one has to think twice as prices on this forum and Domainlore have crashed and registering both the .co.uk and .uk has increased costs.

I don't bring up .uk, it's a sure way of killing a .co.uk sale. I just pass the .uk rights on, no mention.

I'm cleaning up my .co.uk portfolio, thousands will be dropped, admittedly a lot of crap.

Nominet screwed the stability of .co.uk with .uk.

    That's very decent of you.

I wonder if some sellers have sometimes 'forgot' to mention the .uk rights
