    Would anyone here be interested in setting up/joining a "masterminds" group? I'm thinking a limited number of (maybe 6-12) like-minded individuals who are all working to grow their own web-business (not just domainers) and would be interested in sharing and helping each other.

    There's a group like this in the property industry and they have 3-monthly meet-ups where any question is allowed and if asked, it must be answered. They then have a forum area for interesting strategy threads.

    I know Acorn has the potential to do some of this, but I'd be interested in more advanced topics where everyone has something real to give.

    Thoughts?

    Does anyone already belong to a group like this?

    Sounds a bit like these BNI style groups for business networking as such, each group meets once a week before the working day starts, shares ideas etc but the main concept is there is one of each kind of trade in the group.

    The group of 30 - 50 odd people all with different trades have to prove their quality of work to be apart of the group and show their worth, then they have a folder of business cards for certain service providers of they refer to clients if/when asked.

    Ive seen a couple of company's do really well from it but never been into it myself, Im not one for standing speaking in front of people and with the little hours in the day as it is time is money.

    I think for an online community to work such as this there would have to be a pretty good structure of what people consider valuable information, i would imagine alot of the info thats put out there would be teaching most to suck eggs and any information above that there would have to be mutually beneficial for people to share it.

    BNI, 4N and the like are setup to refer business - I'm not interested in that at all. I'm more thinking a meeting of entrepreneurial minds.

    * Chat about strategy and growth
    * Discuss problems faced
    * Share what's working and what's not
    * Help each other set and meet targets

    Almost like group mentorship. Everyone has to bring something valuable to the table.

    And to be clear, I don't see this is a paid membership or anything along those lines. The value out is in helping you grow your business. The value in is in helping others grow theirs.

    Monkey? Have a read of the posts while you was on your sabbatical.

    I've been in a similar thing before. Had own forum set up, invitation only etc. Worked well for about 18 months, then a couple of the long termers left, and (so I was told) it then went dead!

    I'd be interested.

    I'm a member of BNI. Whilst it is set-up for referrals, it is also a great source of knowledge and for a 6.45am breakfast once per week it doesn't eat into the day.

    If you're in London there's also Enterprise Nation. I'm a member there too and attend various gatherings. Another great source of knowledge, but less formally structured and mainly start-ups.

    What I haven't found is a place specifically dedicated to sharing and answering ideas, questions and concerns where egos can be left at the door. If this is what you are proposing then I'd love to be involved.

    I'd be very interested in a peer to peer mentoring group such as this (not a referral group like BNI).

    It would be of interest particularly if it was for web businesses - not domaining.

    I would suggest a minimum entry qualification of a previous or current web business that had annual turnover of over £100K - is this setting the bar high enough? Everyone could sign NDAs if need be.

    Anyone interested in getting involved, please PM me with some details about your company and what you'd hope to gain/offer from being involved.

    Cheers :)

    I would like to be involved with this. A half hour to an hour virtual meetup each week would be good just for a bit of banter and I'm sure it will prove useful.

    there is a chat room feature already on Acorn but I don't think anyone uses it.

    I guess we could also use a Google hangout?

    I was involved in something similar - it wasn't entrepreneurs getting together but industry minds (very high profile companies) minds tackling same issue.

    It was chaired with written rules that were informally agreed when a new member joined. Slightly less reserved than a gentlemen's club, but more formal than a coffee shop/pub meet up.

    My experience is, a bit like this forum and other networking sessions, you get out what you put in. I learnt a lot and helped others who were going through issues i'd tackled in the past.

    Will take a bit of time and effort for whoever will chair, and set agendas/topics - otherwise a non-structured get together will drift off in many directions like a pub catchup (not that there's anything wrong with that!) without anyone feeling they have achieved or got anything out of - and if all feel like that there'll be a lot of last minute pull outs. Won't last long.

    Where is everyone based or this likely to be?
