don't waste your money, it's only really worth it if the site has the same or similar subject to yours, otherwise it'll do bog all :)

Up to about PR 6/7 I agree - however 8/9+ (as if) it works quite well.

I believe PR11 is like G*d telling the SERPs plod to place you number 1

    sorry jonno i disagree

i do this for a living and 3-4 dont do bugger all really .. need too many to get yourself a decent PR
but like rob said 6+ add dramatic weight to your site regardless of the subject

Not true, granted it will be nowhere near as good as a link from a related PR8 site tho.

then surely you'd know that googles algorythms have recently changed in an effort to clamp down on the paid link black market. google want to make their results to be based on quality (e.g relevance, link coverage, content), not who has the most money to buy links :)

in addition, if google finds the PR8 site to be selling links they'll get sandboxed. either that or the PR8 site will have common sense and put a rel="no follow" on the link anyway :p

matt cutts said / infered that - but not seen anything in the wild as of yet. I believe they are targeting the mainstream paid link / textads sites rather than single anon high PR sites, or I have been very lucky!

If the former, then the value will be in those who keep 'quiet' on their rankings and sell single links rather than network into a lazy selloff.

well it wouldn't be hard for google to calculate a paid link would it - it'd look slightly fishy if your site had 10 links from crappy <= 3PR sites then all of a sudden a PR8 linking to you :)

on the other hand, if you already have quite a few few <= PR5 links, and the PR8 is from a relevant site then i'd say you'll see a massive increase.

they are going after link farms like linkmetro & places like that.

the little guy with the PR7 / 8 selling the odd few links will be extremely hard to track down .. nearly impossible... how are google going to determine if 3 links on a pr8 homepage are paid for or just referal ...

Thats the only problem i can see google having problems with .. how are they going to determine teh relevancy ..

for example a site on say gardening linking to a site about paving slabs or weed killer or conservatories .. all fairly relevant .. so it will be interesting to see how google does exactly determine the relevancy

I emailed matt about this a few weeks ago but he didnt give anything away ( not that you'd expect him to (
pretty fast reply as well considering the guy has an absolutely huge mailbox and must get tons of cr** each day.. nice bloke though .. did get some tips which i'll share here once ive tested a few of them :)
