I had some domains which a member of this forum has registered I believe unfairly. How do I resolve this as I have paid for all my domain and I find it incredible that some can be plucked before they are expired. Can someone explain this?

I may have to take this matter further.

If the domains have been taken over by someone else before they expired then they weren't registered they were transferred, do they still show the original registration date from when you registered them?

    it was very strange

    they were
    .com x1
    .net x2
    .co.uk x1

all the same domain name . a set. The other domain which are similar and were registered the same dates are still in my ownership. The 4 above though are now in someone else's name. All the same person.. I did not transfer anything. Also, I have requested a list of all the domains I have with this particular sales site v. well known by the way... won & won ;) as I have misplace my paperwork.

I am v.pissed off about this

The TLD drop market is something I can't really comment on, registrars seem to be able to do anything they want with expiring domains.

There is no way that the .co.uk can be in someone elses name though unless it has dropped and been reg'd or someone has faked the transfer form through Nominet.

ye pretty sure the reg dates hae changed. Need them to send me paperwork for confirmation. It's very weird. It seems they have picked ones they wanted and and just took them basically. I am cross referencing my bank statements with domains the company took payments for. I'm waiting for them to give me a list of domains that are paid for according to the invoice number. Should be simple really. There is defiinitely something odd though. Also, it is a direct competitor and so I'm even more suspicious.

If the reg dates have changed then that means the domains have dropped and been registered by someone else.

From the .co.uk point of view the only way to make a domain drop before its meant to is by submitting a surrender request to Nominet - this would need a copy of your ID (driving license etc.) to be authorised.

Are you sure you didnt just make a mistake with the dates?

PM me the .co.uk domain if you want and if its in my master list I'll be able to tell you what day it dropped on.

So possibly a fraudulent surrender instruction? Very concerning. This is why you should never ever ever allow the other party to a transfer to see your completed half of the transfer form, confirmatory letter, or copy of your ID. Send those independently to Nominet, and by fax and not post.

The surrender process is very 'soft'.

I'm sure this is just a case of the Registrar not informing you of when your domains were about to expire. In Won&Won's case, I believe they are all set to auto-renew. I don't know what they do if you don't have a card on file though...

I think you're all missing the point here. The big issue you've missed is this: why would anyone be stupid enough to steal one of Lex's names, surely none of them are worth stealing

    Sorry Lex, couldn't resist

When transferring a domain I never send a copy of ID, instead I wait for Nominet to email me requesting ID which I then email them a scanned copy.

It's barmy expecting people to send complete strangers a copy of their ID.

I have three domain names that I have paid for but the reseller decided to register them as 'domain admin' I have logged a few support tickets but they're refusing to reply. Take the perverbial p*** when you're doing something out of your own pocket and someone does something like that, not to mention steal data as well.

    Any ideas?

Would be easier if you could tell us who you registered them through Trev.

    whoops

    starfleetuk.com
    sxcomms.org

    and someone else wanted spccreations.net

I submitted a support ticket with fasthost.com abd they made no mention of registering the domains in 'domain admin' and not the names I specified.
