I don't believe it (in the words of Victor Meldrew!), I've had the domain: tele-phone.co.uk listed in a reasonably (at least, I think so!) well known drop-catching service for at least a couple of months now.

On a random check, it was sitting there free to reg tonight all on its own, so I've manually reg'd it myself.

Needless to say I won't be relying on that particular drop-catching service for anything much as it just totally overlooked it - not impressive!

I'm in the process of popping up a small site at Tele-phone.co.uk and would welcome any constructive feedback, comments or ideas.

So far I've got some affiliate, Amazon and Google stuff in there, etc, with a news feed, with more stuff to add. :D

    Looking good!

God bless wiki! Sometimes I find it usefull to also plop my websites link in the external link section of wiki

Youd be suprised the amount of free and quick traffic you can get, bit cheeky but does work nicely sometimes :p

Ah - someone has finally given the Wikipedia trick away :)

Somelinks get taken down as soon as you put them up.

Others stay as they are, Ive had some in place for 9 months now, I guess they are seen as relevent. Some bring in 150uvs a day.

Watch out for other people removing yours to add their own, or changing the URL behind the text which looks at first glance to be yours still sitting there, quite happy.

    Yes

Ive had full on wiki wars with rival businesses.

As for getting taken off, yes its pretty random. But I find you can pretty much tell which ones you will be removed from or not. I guess it depends how well you blend in

Does anyone know if on Wikipedia they block specific URL's once they are removed? Ive had a few removed in the past and have thought of re-adding them but dont want to get banned!! lol Shame becuase the traffic I was getting from one was immense!

    What do you think?

They will remove URLs and block IPs, but this doesnt last forever.

In extreme cases they will stop people from editing the page.

If you look in the notes section at the top you can see exactly what the little wikimods are doing as they talk about it all!

The wikipedia adds a nofollow ref to external links iirc, so don't rely on it for search engine spidering etc...

That being said, it doesn't mean that Google et al take note of it...

    Thanks all. :D

I've added in some images as suggested to break the text up a bit and stuck in a logo too (index page only for now).

I too have used WikiPedia - even if the link only stays for a while, hopefully the search engines will cache it too. But, be careful you're not penalised for 'spamming'! ;)

    Thanks for the suggestions. :)

Interesting, I've just noticed Tele-Phone.co.uk is now listed as the 8th result in Google.co.uk for 'telephone shopping' - now if only I could get that result for 'telephone' too! LOL.
