I first registered the URL London.co.uk and a number of other major cities and county names around the UK eleven years ago. All are listed at www.london.co.uk and will be developed over time. It currently enjoys around 60,000 uniques per month.
Up until now it has not been a part of my business that has had much attention and the current web presence reflects this.
I now want to change this because of the major opportunities now evolving in tourism, advertising, local search and business directories.
I enclose examples of other sites that deal with London and bring in much revenue. All of them get over 700,000 unique visits per month.
    http://www.londontown.com/
    http://www.timeout.com/london/
    http://www.visitlondon.com/

This should evolve into one of the most visited sites in the UK.

    Any ideas anyone?

    london.co.uk
    manchester.co.uk
    edinburgh.co.uk
    glasgow.co.uk

You need to get these domains developed to sites of a standard to reflect the quality of the domains that they are.

Done properly you should be able to make a decent living from them.

If you don't have the time/ability to do it yourself, I am sure there are people here who would do it for you, for a slice of the action.

Nice names Simon, but I have to say a tragic waste really :(

    I mean manchester.co.uk, glasgow.co.uk just redirect to london.co.uk?!

if you had developed them properly even 5 years a go they'd probably be worth 5 times more than they are worth now.

    Now theres more competition.

I dont understand why youve developed those other sites for london (when they could have been all under london.co.uk abyway) but left the others to rot?

    Anyway good names well done!

How do you work out that London gets 60k visitors when all the other sites are pointed at london. And if its 60k including all those other sites ie surrey.co.uk essex.co.uk etc etc then thats a very low UV considering the caliber of all those names.

I'm more thinking as he mentioned that those domains where examples of the possibilities for the London.co.uk ,etc domains he put forward himself.
    Not developed by him though.

    And absolutely great domains!

We point everything at London because we are lazy and the thing that seems to work best at the moment is hotel banners through CJ. if our market is finding people beds then it doesn't matter where they are. London gets about 40 on its own last time we checked.

I am setting myself the task of putting together a team. The phrase "take out time out" comes to mind

    Simon,

If i were you, I would cash some of my chips in.

you're sitting on a sh*t load of potential there, and there's always the risk that a change coming your way will devalue them in some way or other.

I'm particularly referring to the latest ICANN debate on who should own geo domains. I think theres an RSS thread here on the topic if you haven't seen it - but like I said for this reason alone I would seriously consider cashing out some of those names.

bottom line is, no one knows what the future looks like, and who knows if this crazy ICANN initiative will go anyway, but if not this time, there will be another threat on the horizon - it's just the way it works.

anyway, whatever you do - kudos to you sir, very nice names indeed.

I agree, but if the valuation is based solely on the pagerank and the domain, a little closer, but take into account the site and indeed the limited company who owns the site.....

Good luck with developing your domains, you certainly have some excellent domains there. I'm pleased to hear they are getting developed, sometimes i cringe at some great names that don't even resolve....
