Ok guys thought i would ask this question :)

what is best for doing mini sites, a VPS server or dedicated server.

what are the advantages / disadvantages of them both?

which one is best for a SE point of view for say 100 mini sites?

    comments and tips welcome :)

If your looking at 100 minisites you could easily just use a shared hosting or reseller account, or even split it over 10 different hosting accounts (with different C class IP's) so you can benefit from some crosslinking....

    That depends on the provider.

SE point of view.. multple reseller accounts with different providers on different /24s would be best.

Some providers can even provide these over multiple /24s (class cs) :)

    Yes - it's possible, but:

    a) RIPE might not like it
    b) assuming their routing & vlans have been setup correctly, it might be a bit tricky to do...

To be honest, it would probably be cheaper to get a VPS from Host A and a VPS from Host B... A VPS is probably more than you require, unless you're getting a lot of traffic etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about different class C addresses.

    A - Nonsense
    B - Easy enough.
C - Not worth the hassle for a few X links imo

    Hah!

You're obviously not a RIPE member.
