Hi guys

I am new here so nice to meet you all and thanks in advance for any answers!

I am looking to develop a large number of websites using WordPress, which i have never used yet. I am aiming to develop approximately a 100 websites + more if possible.

My questions are both host related and WordPress related.

1) I wouldn't say i was that technically minded but should I be looking for a host that has Cpanel and fantastico (this seems to be what i have been reading)? I have a friend who i may share a VPS with but he doesn't want these 'tools' on there. Would I be making my life difficult by not having a host with these 'tools' on there?

2) Should I be looking at getting a VPS as opposed to a shared host like hostgator if my aim is for many sites?

3) I have a mix of co.uk and com domains which will be targeting the UK - so should I be looking for a host in the UK or is it ok to put all my co.uk's on USA host and just put my .com's on a UK host?

4) Would it be best for me to get a reseller account?

5) What advice can anyone give me in how i should start regarding WordPress, if my aim is to have many 100+WordPress sites and for me to update and manage them all efficiently.

Wordpress MU might be the solution but as you say you are not technically minded you might get bogged down by the setup and configs.

I would go for reseller account(s) with cPanel and fantastico / Installatron. It's literally a 5 minute job to get wordpress installed and by the time you have done a few you will get this down to a couple of minutes.

If you get various hosting packages in different data centres you will have a better chance of linking to your own sites without getting a Goog penalty.

Apologies for my lack of technical experience. Are you saying that i should go for either WordPress MU or reseller accounts? Could I go for WordPress MU and reseller accounts?

Could you tell me what advantages there are to having reseller accounts if i don't use them for clients but my own projects? Is that the idea behind someone likes us getting a reseller account?

Not sure mate as never really used wordpress before tbh, but people who use wordpress seem to be happy with it and people on joomla are equally happier with it.

In my view joomla 1.0 was very difficult to use and put a lot of people off and a lot of people that hate it will have used this and been put off it for life. Joomla 1.5 which has been live for 2 years is very easy to use and the components or third party apps for it is endless.

There are massive amounts of apps for joomla and they are very indepth, things like jreviews, virtuemart, huge apps that have taken people a lot of time to develop and mostly free.

But once you start using one or the other I wouldn't switch as it is very confusing.

Hi Flinty,

If your friend doesn't want cPanel and Fantastico then you should certainly get your own solution. Without any of these tools you will spend a long time setting up each account if you aren't very technical.

Fantastico is excellent for Wordpress installs, however if you start customising heavily then you have to be careful of the updates.

I would really suggest you get a reseller account to host your domains, or possibly a VPS if you want to manage your own backups etc. The plus of this is that you aren't just limited to wordpress in the future, and you have cpanel/whm/fantastico to support you.

I would suggest you get a UK hosting plan for the .co.uk domains, and as suggested earlier it might be good to get multiple reseller accounts, possibly one in USA and one in the UK.
