What do you lot think of dot.mobi?
I'm in..... it's the way the web is going..... everything is getting smaller & going mobile so it's only logical.... I'm in but not because I know what I'm talking about but rather because I know that I don't have a clue what the web & mobile technology will look like in 3, 5 & 10 years time.... & given the speed of technology it looks like .mobi will have a future (all the founding companies / organisations behind it aren't going to walk away & the fundemental thing - in my opinion at least - is that mobile browsers won't need the end user to enter .mobi / .com/mobile or any suffix at all.... simply enter the domain you want e.g google & the device (thats ALL devices) will default to
www.google.mobi from an enabled device.... its not so much teaching people to remember to use yet another extension - rather its about dropping the extension altogether! (look whats happened first to the http// and more recently the WWW. prefix.... you hardly ever need to key them in now because most browsers default..... .mobi is the only suffix on the planet that will work by default.... it'll make the key strokes required to enter the address of the mobile pages within a .com site look rather outdated very quickly!
The most recent feedback I heard was (& this is unconfirmed) that when using a .mobi address from a desktop, the software would redirect the user to a full size (non.mobi) site..... so owning a great domain on .mobi could be the only address you ever need (as the 'redirect' address can be a worthless address because no-one will ever need to recall what it was)..... thats why prime .mobi domains are such great value now (as there are many out there unregistered yet... I can get mine for under £6 per annum now! - thats got to be good value surely!!!?
I'm looking forward to someone pointing out my fundemental misunderstanding of how this is going to work (or not)..... I hold my hands up - I'm as green as they come in this game ;-]

Gary
