hello - welcome to AD

here's my view - a bit pessimistic, I'm afraid, about how to build a good domain portfolio but with some hope at the end

Best way of building a domain portfolio:

1. have lots of money and buy good ones as they come available on secondhand market

2. build some superfast computer program that beats well-honed and experienced drop catchers to catch good domains when they occasionally become available because the registrant has snuffed it and forgot to tell his wife about his domain portfolio

3. wait for new tld's to be issued and buy whatever you can in the mad morning land grab

4. invent time travel

5. (the helpful one) have a systematic way of regularly ploughing through thousands of reasonable domain names to see if any are available and haven't been caught for some reason & build in a watch system looking for suspended domains.

There is still opportunity there, but it has changed from simply regging available names.

good luck,

Lucky Luke

Welcome. My advice is don't buy too many domains until you really know what to look for.
