Davidhbolton is on a distinguished road

Hi

I've been collecting a few domains over the years but have just invested £600 in 120 single word .im domains ( no trademarks or copyrights) Hire.im recruiting.im fees.im, etc.

Although it's isle of man, I wondered what peoples opinions of these domains are say value etc. And the best way to exploit them. I could host them and I'm tempted to lease them out not sell.

Ouch, hope you can afford to miss that £600, I don't see the value in them at all I'm afraid

Anyway welcome to Acorn, a lot of research is a good idea to start with.

Good luck

You may get lucky with a few sales if the domain name is strong.

I sold the one and only .im I bought and made a handsome profit from it.

One mans meat and all that. Good luck with them.

Well my reasoning is that single word domains have value, not just .Coms. Recuiting.im even sounds like "Recruiting him".

I'm tempted to auction leases as an experiment to see if anyone is interested.

I think you're going to struggle for 2 reasons.

1) IMO, in terms of reseller value .im are pretty much worthless (unless you live on the Isle of Man and are using it for a business perhaps), and they don't really have the sort of recognition needed for lease deals etc.

2) The renewal fees on these names are very high - ie £4,800 per year just to renew the 120 you've bought - ie 8 times what they sold for at the time you bought them.

Sorry, but obviously it is only an opinion, so please do feel free to prove me wrong!

Don't see any value unless developed.

You reminded me about this ".pro" guy we have here, I won't invest too much on new tld, as they come and goes real fast, but I might be wrong(That's why I am not a millionaire yet)

Good luck with your domains

Hi David

as ty has mentioned, most registration services are heavily discounting for the first year. if you go into your control panel and attempt to add another year to one of the domains you'll see the true cost. I dont see the Isle of Man extension being good for any sales portfolio - development seems to be the best way forward and theres still hundreds of key-words/terms sitting unregistered.

Reading a post by Edwin earlier, I'd say that .co.im / .im are third/forth choice on the isle of man.

Welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums, let us know how you get on with those domains, seems like a very risky investment to me but good luck!
