GordonL is a jewel in the roughGordonL is a jewel in the roughGordonL is a jewel in the roughGordonL is a jewel in the rough

My name is Gordon, and I am a domain hoarder...

Seriously, I think I have a problem! I've been registering domains for various projects for over a decade now and have both let some gems go and held onto some complete dross. The best name I have at the moment is probably l-plate.com, the worst... There are so many but I am not entirely sure quite why I thought phcd.net would be a good idea to register.

Hoping I can learn from you guys.

phcd.net is a little better than my hailstoning.com registration in my eyes..

Heh, were you going through the dictionary domain droplists by any chance? I ended up with buffoonish.com by doing that. At least I was able to do something amusing, (to me at least,) with that one.

haha.. i think i was thinking of everyday terms and typed in wind, rain, raining, hail, hailstones then hailstoning and it was avail so clicked buy without thinking twice! i guess its not too bad, but if its not a product related domain its a bit tricky to make money.. and even having a product related domain is still tricky to make money so you can see how it seems pointless registering hailstoning.com that way.. it's just like having a itchy trigger finger!!!

Maybe you could put some sort of British weather/travel based blog up on it and make a bit of cash of contextual ads. Or just accept sponsorship from a raincoat/umbrella manufacturer.

Have you tried selling any of your domains? I would suggest only allowing yourself to register a new name once you've sold one of your currrent ones. Selling soon gives you an idea of what is a good name.

Hey Accelerator!

If you wouldnt mind.. would you give some insight on where you would start off when trying to sell domains..?

I've never had any luck with listing on sedo and sitting back waiting for offers or BIN's being accepted etc and ive never really gone wild with the prices that i ask, like some people do.. i once got one in a moniker live auction when i once got talking to a man called Don Lyons (i think his name was) but it never met reserve of £4k! lol

Thank you!
