Yeah I brought just one related to tennis but my aim si to buy as much as I can following the trends and then sell back some and keep a part for myself to build websites. That would be great if I could make some money like that...

Any advice while buying domains?

Thumbs up

Advice >

  • Don't buy loads of domains to develop if you're only going to make a ton of thin sites.
Do use content and logo design services if not that good yourself.
Don't register new extensions such as .gr.com
Stick to .com, .co.uk and .org.uk and you should be fine.
DON'T ! use Estibot for appraisals, you will get false hopes
Do try to keep your domains with a single registrar, I recommend DomainMonster.com
Don't think you know it all if you you're a newbie (nothing personal)
Good luck

Welcome to the forum Joby!

Brilliant advice above from doodlebug! In addition to the resources on this forum, AD's sister site DomainPrices.co.uk is another invaluable tool for any domainer.
And, yes, never trust Estibot appraisals...

Best wishes, Richard

Your aim should be to buy as FEW as you can, at least at first. Learn what's good and what's not, what will sell and what doesn't get much interest. Test the water very cautiously. You should only ramp up the buys after you're really comfortable with the market and its expectations.

If you don't start slow, you could end up like some people who have come on here with their lists of hundreds (or sometimes even thousands) of domains that are, in a word, worthless. They've spent the price of a holiday - or a car - on a portfolio that's not worth the price of a packet of crisps. And that's because they did not take the time - and put in the effort - to learn to distinguish between junk and value, between diamonds and coal.

As Edwin said.....

Learning from your mistakes is a great way to learn, but learning from others mistakes (eg advice from this forum) is much cheaper.
