Domain Wizard is on a distinguished road

Hi Everyone

Hi, looks like a great forum.

Quick question for anyone - Is there any value in some of the more random country codes - an, ad etc.

I appreciate they won't ever be as valuable as gtlds but might they be worth purchasing if the name is very good and goes well?

Not really, be very careful. See dnjournal.com for weekly sales.

Some good advice would be to stick to only .com and .co.uk to begin with (if you are looking to resale domains), .org.uk ok for development.

In general, remember buying is easy, selling is hard. Don't buy too many domains before you have ever made a sale. In general, buy domains slowly and evaluate opportunities carefully.

Thanks, that's an interesting site

I shan't go too crazy, only spend what I'm prepared to lose.

In regards to the different country domain names, I was thinking along the lines of focus.rs. Obviously not that one as that's trademarked but you get my drift...

Yes, I see what you're saying, using the extension in a clever way. It can be done but I would say it's very difficult to get right. If you are just starting out it's probably safer to build experience in .com and .co.uk.

Clearly there are opportunities in other extensions, but more difficult to get right. E.g. contact.me would be a valuable name.

Renewal fees can be much higher in other extensions and there are probably other gotchas.

If I get some, it will only be a handful as a punt to see the reaction I'd get selling them. The majority of domains I buy will be .com and .co.uk.

I did notice the high renewal prices. No good for parking really, just selling as a novelty factor.

There have been a couple of good "novelty" - "word-play" sales but to my mind the few that we have seen have been pretty clever, with some clever forethought.

I would hate to think of the tens of thousands of probably no-hopers that have been registered on the back of a couple of sales.

Welcome to AD Dom Wiz. Plant seeds, Develop, make $$$, repeat. Just start off slowly and remember - it's better to make a few grand a month from one site rather than nothing from ten!
