Did you/they actually speak before they hung up? Have you tried ringing up again, dialling 141 before their number? It's good to have a selection of phone numbers for ringing people up who decide that they temporarily won't answer your usual number (builders after they've let you down on an appointment for instance).
I finally managed to get through, but gave up after several minutes of being kept waiting in a queue. I can't understand why they don't post information on their System Status page about what's wrong.
That's a useful tip about the phone numbers - I'll keep a note of it.
