this is a very interesting post. I am having the same problem decision the others seem to be having.. 1. GO for developing 1 site at time with loads of good content, build up sell it 2. go for the microsites, quicker but smaller return because im building my own 'micro cms' for these micro sites its now getting out of control, its getting more and more complex becuse i want my microsite to have more features (like a real website ), i'ved looked for a off-shelf CMS but they dont do what i want (overkill mostly) - so i built my own. Now im thinking i might as well do a custom site from scratch for each 'microsite'... will it ever end.. |

i4v - i use wordpress for my CMS needs, you can strip it right down. you can do pretty much anything with WordPress these days, and my host provides me with a "one click install" -- so wordpress takes seconds to install (me if you require a discount code for hosting |

I prefer to use my own stripped down, optimised template for single page sites. A custom CMS with single central control panel would be a very, very useful addition.

![]() | you could almost do it with a .skel template (.skel is the "default installed website" on a server)

Suppose I'd better post now I've read it all A few points: I don't think mini sites / scraper sites are the way to go - google is picking up on them. I have a good friend who has about 130+ mini sites, and over the last year, his adsense income has dropped significantly (30%+) due to google dropping rankings etc. Developing a site is the way forward in my experience. I have a few sites that I'm developing at the moment, and it's proving interesting. I have one site/blog that has been running a year and now gets about 4500 uniques a month. However, this is a very niche market, and the adsense isn't doing that well. Latest site has only been up a week, and has had about 50 uniques. Both sites are based upon wordpress which I've modified slightly. In terms of duplicated content (dvd.co.uk dcd.co.uk etc) google will penalise you for multiple content across same domains. Your best bet is to 301 redirect the typos to the real domain. My problem with developing a site is getting the design side sorted - that's nt my strong point. However, I do benefit from having a pretty good PHP knowledge, and as such, can knock up quite complex-integrated sites quite quickly... Jee |

Whenever you're building a new site, look through your design folder and pick the bits you like from several sites to make your own design.
