No these are specific bank codes.

Dig out your bank statement, mine has this information listed on it.

IBAN stands for International Bank Account number, see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna...Account_Number

normally pretty long, up to 34 digits I believe, often now printed on your bank statement.

Swift/Bic:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swift_Codes

Identifies the bank, you would usually use the head office Swift as this is the one that will be a member of UK clearing. Head office Swifts are given in the link I supplied, but I would probably still double check with your bank as to the exact swift that they use (if it isn't given on your statement).

Hope this helps

Hi there,

Just to reinforce this - although your fellow forumers have been very helpful and beat me to it:

We pay out of Germany and, although we can pay with your standard bank account number and sort code, it's faster - and 8 Euros per transaction - cheaper to pay by IBAN and SWIFT/BIC.
We did actually want to have our European bank in England, but we couldn't find a bank that charged anything less than a whopping 25 quid per International transaction! I saw on another part of this forum how people enjoyed a good moan about life in England being extortionate, so here's another bit of fodder.

We've gathered this data from most of our UK customers over the last few months and we're going to update the data ourselves so you don't need to, but feel free to change it yourselves if you wish.

On another note, the wire payments went out this morning, so they may be there in time for the weekend

Ed

Please contact your Branch or Relationship Manager if you cannot locate your own IBAN.
So don't try to guess - ask your bank.

Yes, the best thing is really to look on your bank statement. My HSBC one is in the top right.
I have tried to see if it's possible to build my own IBAN number from my bank account but it is certainly safer and wiser to get the number from your statement or bank direct.

This is also quite an interesting link:
http://www.xe.com/idt/

While we're on the subject of payments, we use mass-pay when we do PayPal which means that we pay the fees, allowing you to receive money without the 3% cut. We're paying PayPal within the next 48 hours and you can set up a dollar account meaning that effectively nothing gets lost in translation, so if anyone's considering a change...

If you have an account with barclays: http://www.barclayscorporate.com/iban should work - you can generate your IBAN there.
