Don't get carried away buying domains, before you attempt to sell some. That will immediately show you how good your domains really are.

Very good advise, it's really easy to spend cash on junk and then get disillusioned when it doesn't make you a big return.

Also, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news to the OP, but he is a little late to the party.

    It is never too late.

If you have £200 in your back pocket, you can walk into the domain game in 2015 and make a respectable, residual income. With over 100,000 expiring domains each day, there are many targeted keywords to be picked up and marketed to connected end buyers.

When you say residual income, do you mean pocket money or a real income?

Chasing proactive end-user sales, although it is obviously works for some, seems quite time consuming with a fair few dead-ends in my experience. Could you consistently earn £15 an hour doing this which I think is about the UK average wage (http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/ashe/...013-provisional-results/info-ashe-2013.html)? To make that sort of weekly income (after costs) I imagine you need to be making a £200 sale every weekday.

    You can earn £225-£500/weekday (£5K-£6K/month), working 2.5 hours/day.

The model works, I have been using it on the side for years.

You need a few obvious ingredients: a short-and-sweet template, know which keywords have higher probabilities of selling, average negotiation skills, at least a few spare hours each day for the required tasks (keyword research, outbound marketing, emailing invoices, domain transfers).

So is 2.5 hours in addition to "a few spare hours each day"??

I'm impressed by your skill if you can earn that sort of money for a 50 hour working month. Well done.

The 2.5 hours a day is the few spare hours a day.

2 hours/day is spent on outbound marketing. Half an hour is allocated toward investment decisions and a little keyword research.

It takes me (and anyone who puts the system into practice consistently) 20mins to market any given domain to 25-45 highly targeted buyers. 80% of your prospects of selling are locked within that target group.
Out of 6 domains marketed, at least 1 (and sometimes 2-3) sell. But if you sell 1 in 6, you are still doing a great job.

Not included in the 2.5 hours is replying to "how much" replies and sending instructions for payment/domain transfer. These replies take literally seconds when you have multiple response-templates ready to edit/copy-paste.

Many domain investors sit-and-wait for buyers/end-user sales as they either 1) do not have the time or/and 2) do not have the patience that outbound marketing requires consistently for daily results.

I personally mix the outbound model with incoming lead sales.

Great posts Federer and well done on your success!. In 2014 i mostly focused on trying to add quality. And if the domains were good enough, i would get a steady stream of walk in sales, even if this was via parking my domains at Sedo or through whois. This worked some of the time but i also had some quiet weeks of nothing but timewasters and lowball offers.

I think you can probably earn £500 a day if you've got £250k+ of capital to put in. If anyone thinks they can arrive with £0 and make that sort of money, then they're dreaming.

As already outlined, the business model is not based on churning incoming leads into big-ticket sales resulting from warehousing 200K+ premium .COM brands.

The model is based on the numbers game that always works in your favor if you target the right keyword domains and the right potential end buyers
    > Investing £30 and buying 6 .CO.UK, selling at least 1, buying 6 more, selling 1 (sometimes 2), buying 5-6 more and so forth. A couple of hundred £ as an entry-level is more suffice.

This is the usual anti new domainers reply to put you off. You're not too late. Federer is spot on there is still money to be made it is just that some don't like competition. I asked a similar question and was told there are other ways to sit in front of a pc all day !

It's true the really sought after names will be nigh impossible to catch using any public service, you'd need a nominet membership, tag etc. This doesn't mean you can't make money from domains you're likely to get.

Google Adam Dicker, it looks like federer follows his model, more proactive. I would also say look at .uk, shorter urls are in. Domainers aren't keen on it but in 3 years or so they have a decision to either keep their rights to the .uk by dipping in their pocket (and so effectively doubling their portfolio cost) or letting them go. No question some good names will drop then.

If you are pro active you will make money, and make good money. Don't be put off by the naysayers, they just don't want any more competition.

Federer, if I may, you have some kind of special touch that even those of us who have been doing this for years don't have. You're naturally gifted at spotting domains on a level some of us can only dream of reaching.

You're far too kind Dave. Appreciate the compliment in any case.
