please help!!

ok here goes,
My husband and I own ppi.org.uk and we have just been offered over £3000 for it. Is that a good amount?
we are having lots of problems with the purchaser who clearly states in their terms of sale agreement that they shall pay the full amount and give us 2 days to change the details of the domain over to them, however they offered to send a part payment via bacs to an account (which unfortuneately was closed by bank as they thought it dormant) which is in the process of bouncing back, i know confusing. However they wanted us to change the http settings which we have done they have already placed a website on this page although technically we still own the domain without any monies changing hands. they have suggested that we collect a cheque from their offices and deal with the said nominet forms then and there however I am very dubious about cheques and them being rubbery (bouncing). I have been advised that we should not exchange any details until full funds have been recieved and cleared in account.
Does anyone have any suggestions???
Should we just sell it on the open market via a good company like sedo?
Are there scammers out there doing this kind of thing and has anyone heard of Cybernet media the company trying to purchase it?

I would suggest bankers draft, chaps or the like could be organised in a similar manner. Paper forms take time to process by Nominet so if the cheque did bounce, it would be possible to 'stop' the transfer.

Flip it over, they are in a similar position, ie. why give you £3k with nothing in return

If that name was listed on sedo tomorrow for £3k I would be pretty sure there would not be any other bidders. Sedo would take 10% for the work you are doing to sort the deal out, if not less

Not sure but sounds legit if they are already paying £1.5k upfront, and no.

Cheers,
Rob.

thanks maybe i am just concerned about trusting people i appreciate your comments though and will suggest chaps etc
we have suggested a bankers draft with no reaction as yet however we are gonna wait as in no hurry, until their bacs transfer has bounced back to them we have also offered to send all details to nominet via registered post etc and have a signed form stating terms of business etc. sooo technical lol
Surely they should not have put a site on the domain without full transaction though or am i being petty?

You won't get a better price for the name IMO, take it and run.

I agree, use a 3rd party Escrow service, either Escrow or I think Sedo can do this too.

It will cost you money but at least you will have a safe transaction.

That's a fantastic price for a 3 letter .org.uk - I would certainly take the cash.

Smile many thanx

have been lucky we chose the name 10 years ago for our paranormal group who is phoenix paranormal investigators we were just lucky that ppi also stands for payment protection insurance a big buzz word in finance at the moment. I agree that 3k seems alot for a org.uk but hey thats what they wanna pay i say hoorah all the way to the bank. also managed to get phxi.co.uk now which is gr8 as phx is the abbreviation for phoenix so quite happy all in all, just gonna take my time and ensure all payments are made and to keep them happy just ensure that all is done above board. Sorry to be so suspicious but not everyday that someone calls you and offers u that kinda cash for nowt.

have checked out cybernet media not a bad reputation however renowned for spamming!!

Take their cheque and give them the signed transfer forms, however dont provide the requred ID, informing them that you will send to Nominet directly.

Cash the cheque and wait for it to clear.

Wait for Nominet to email for the ID, if the cash is in the bank, then send over the ID.

If the cheque bounces, dont send the ID, tell Nominet to cancel the transfer.

Thats the way I do all my transfers.
