![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Domain Trader Rating: (100% / 104) | Transfering domains with Nominet
I bought some domains recently, only one was a .co.uk, I knew nothing about Nominet until reading up on them today on their site after reading something on here about them. With the .co.uk one I bought, it still has the other blokes name in the domain registration when doing a Who-Is look up, I wasn't aware until today that it stays in his name, and after reading Nominets site, it appears you have to pay £10 to get a domain changed to your own name after buying it from someone. I also saw that it said you would need identification for the transfer process, well, that's going to be a problem for me, because I don't have a driving licence or a passport, I have no utility bills in my name as the gas and electric is on a card and key payment, the phone is in my other halfs name etc, about all I have is an NHS card and a copy of my birth certificate, would that be sufficient, or is there a way to get around it? Also, with it still being in the other blokes name, even though I have paid for the domain, and he pushed it to my account on Dynadot via his Dynadot account with a couple of minutes of sending him the money, can he claim it's still his as it's in his name (not that I think he would)? Even though Dynadot could show he pushed it to my account. I didn't realise .co.uk domains were so complicated, it has put me right off buying any of them in the future, I have been awake now for 37 hours, I stayed up all last night looking through domain names, had some .co.uk's that I fancied chancing my arm on, but am now put off by Nominet and not having any decent ID. |

when you buy a .co.uk the seller can log onto nominets online service and do an online transfer, this is done in a matter of minutes now so email the seller and ask him todo that, if he dosnt know how get him to phone nominet on monday. As with putting you off, well it has took nominet a while to get the online service up but it is a good tool now. Ive done same day sales and transfers. |

And yes the domain is still his until he initiates the transfer through Nominet to you and you complete it.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I sent the original registrant an email today, just had a reply, he doesn't know what Nominet is either, he's going to try and get an account with them, then give me the login details to transfer the name to myself. Another question, I had as look at the Nominet fees page and it gives payment types as: Quote:

Seller will allready have an account with them, it automaticly creates one when you buy a uk domain. As for Visa Electron that is fine, just select visa debit. Once you have done it once it will all become clear, it really is easy compared to the old paper system! Good luck |

Some more Nominet questions, I am with Dynadot and purchase my domains through them, when I go to submit an order with them for a .co.uk domain, what exactly happens from there? Do Nominet send any paperwork to the postal address in my details listed with Dynadot? Also, I will choose to have domain privacy when purchasing it, does that mean Nominet don't publish my details in the Who-Is that they do? The email address I used to register at Dynadot that is usually in my domain lookups, is that addy forwarded on to Nominet for them to email me at that address? Or, is it that Nominet send some paperwork to my postal address for me to sign instead? The thing is, I wont be entering my name as the "UK Registrant" during the registration process, it will be registred in another persons name, I'm just buying the domain for them, but Nominet might send postal mail to me, when it's in another persons name, will this cause problems? |

I bought a UK domain name the other day, just to see what happens with regards to Nominet, I bought www.therenaissance.co.uk domain for my other half, as she has recently finished her degree and studied quite a lot of the Renaissance period. So, what happens now then, is Nominet supposed to email me details about the registration, or send me some paperwork in the post? I thought they were supposed to send some sort of login details to an account on the Nominet site? |

@ Grant, yeah, I am still waiting for the seller to get back to me on that, he had not heard of Nominet before and was going to look in to it. What about the new domain I bought that I posted in my previous post, will Nominet contact me directly with some account login details for the Nominet site? |

You'll probably need to call Nominet and ask them to activate the account, you will need to know the admin email address you used. The new system is great if you're a .uk domain pro, if you're not its a bag of crap Grant | |
