Drop catching services...

...lets say a single word domain was schduled to drop next week. What motive is there for a drop catching service to try and catch a domain on my behalf for £40 or whatever it costs? Surely, if they caught it, they'd just keep it. If that is the case then surely mere mortals like myself have no chance whatsoever of getting my hands on a single keyword generic at less than market price?

I may be stating the obvious but can someone please confirm.

BTW - there is a single keyword generic scheduled to drop next week that I'd love to get my hands on

Drop catchers don't catch for themselves, if they did they wouldn't be in business long, the UK domain space is quite small.

The retail outfits really only catch the low rung stuff as they get flooded with bookings each day, so their effectiveness for catching top generics are reduced considerably.

They can't compete with a single TAG holder going after one name, at say, a chosen 7 hour period querying at 60ms intervals.

I worked out that most catching services are hitting at once every 2-3 seconds and solo tags upto 5-20 times a second in a confined time frame (not sure what the limit is). Which means realistically a public facing catcher has little change of single word popular generics.

There is always a tiny chance tho.

However some people like Admin, Stender, Goldfrog, Dragon offer the use of their dac so you never know
