The process of selling a domain

Morning All,

I have tried searching the forums with no luck, to find out the process of selling a domain name. I will shortly be listing a few domains on here for sale, but I have never sold a domain before.

What I am looking for is advice on what I need to do once I have agreed a price with the purchaser and funds have been sent to me. Is is just log on to Nominet and transfer over to them? What do I need to do with the domain to remove it from my hosting company to the purchasers TAG/hosting company etc.?

Sorry if the answer has been posted elsewhere, did try to search but could not find anything?

James

Hi Jimbo,

Yes, basically, all you need to do is login to Nominet online services and start a transfer to the buyer, when they click the link in the Nominet email to accept the transfer, they can set the domain to their tag or the tag of their registrar where they will be transferring it to.

Just a note on housekeeping, depending on which registrar you are with, once the domain has been transferred, it will either be removed from your control panel, or you will need to send a support ticket to ask them to remove it, otherwise, your registrar might automatically renew when the time comes and charge you for the renewal, even though you have sold it, if it's still listed in your account.

If the buyer is with the same registrar as you, most of them allow you to push the domain to another users account for free.
