me.uk worth it?

New to the forum so hi all!

I've recently found a domain with 1.5m global searches a month, however it is only available as .me.uk.

Would are .me.uk domains any good for search results, probably with a minisite?

thanks in advance

welcome to acorn chatman2222

most here dont like .me.uk and wouldnt touch them, but i on the other hand have a slight fetish for them as long as they are good.
i have a few that make some "£"
for the sake of £6 i would go for it

let us know what it is if you do

I second the thumbs up for me.uk. I purchased one recently and it is doing suprisingly good in the search engines.

The aversion to .me.uk names does not make sense in my opinion. It is a combination of the domain name market still being very new ( fourteen years or so in the U.K.) vested interests by .co.uk stakeholders and a curious belief that the serps won't be any good for .me.uk names.
This will change over time as the price of all strong .co.uk names spirals beyond the range of most people, if you are holding good .me.uk names then hang onto them or better yet develop them..

Hi chatman2222

Use a .me.uk for your own use to build up a mini site to earn revenue. Generics or products are always a good bet. Resale just for the domain is a no go in most cases but with a site sat on it earning then usually makes it shiny enough to be sold.

As for earnings, SEO and any good to make money? YES I have made £4k + from just 2 sites in 2 years and they just sit there now. A lot of posting and SEOing etc later at the beginning but once done started to pay off

For £6 GO FOR IT!!

(but don't get carried away and buy loads do try and stick with .org.uk's or .co.uk's)

Agree - have many me's - all of which cover their renewal on PPC - some £xxx sales as well.

am I wrong in thinking that they are supposed to be personal domains and as such the registrar can take them off you if you are using them commercially?

See Rules section 9

I don't think Nominet are minded to action that rule at the moment, they've got enough on their plate as it is right now. Besides which, anyone managing to make money from a .me.uk deserves a jolly good pat on the back!

In that case what is the favoured registrar as fasthosts/ukreg who I use for uk domains, do not (or did not) allow you to register them unless they were your name, maybe that has changed?

I thought that you were allowed to use them for commercial gain, but they must be registered to an individual and not a company.
