.sub domains

Can you tell me if sub domains have the same effect in rankings as a normal domain...for example:

england.cricketteam.com
englandcricketteam.com

and why we are on the subject what in percentage terms is the importance of a good name compared to other factors such as content etc.

Many thanks

As far as I'm aware, sub domains carry about the same ranking a "in url" phrases, ie it helps a bit, but it's not the same as having the actual domain that matches the search.

If it carried any real weight then names like ho.useinsurance.co.uk or cre.ditcards.co.uk wouldn't still be free to reg.

Regards

Ty
