.im TLD

I'm interested to know what you guys think of the .im TLD.

Obviously the Isle of Man is tiny compared to the UK, the .im domains are not very in demand, and many very good keyword domains are still available.

If you were building a tourist website about the Isle Of Man, for example, would you consider using a .im domain?

For your purpose, I would DEFINITELY go with an .im domain. I don't know which extension you'd use, but here are the options (some of course not relevant):

.im.plc.co.im.net.im.co.im.org.im.ac.im.ltd.co.im. com.im.gov.im

Blacknight.com is a great place to register them.

Can anyone own a .im extension or have you got to reside in the I.O.M, also would the search engines give any weight to the .im extension to I.O.M searchers?

you can register directly a < >.im domain, so no need to go to the third level.

Worth a punt I just picked up solarpanels.im must be a solar panel fitter on the island. the last solar panels available to reg.

I own-up to owning one also.

Personally I would have thought it had to be :- Tourism, tax or a Company registration angle to see anything worthwhile. Anyone going generic might as well go to Borneo or further.

oddly enough, generic words do get good direct type in traffic and easily pay for themselves and then some with google domains.

trying to sell these on though is another headache altogether
