will there be the same opportunities in the coming years

Hi all, I am new to this, I haven't yet bought any domain but some are interesting but the list might be longer to grab them all and I am just wondering by waiting they will be taken out ?...so the question is it grab it while it's available as the names will eventually run out, or would there always options....this is based on the .com trend, what's the best way to register, is it using any tool, please suggest, or hand writing and what would you look when buying a domain name most, what would be the criteria to pick the right domain. and finally how many domains one can manage at given time. Sorry if I posted many questions in one post, as you know I am newbie and I have been only reading lately and time for questions.
cheers

Entering the domain market now is like entering the property market, the art market, antiques or even the stock market. It can be lucrative but you need to do a lot of research, all the questions you ask can't be answered easily. Spend six months researching and if you still want to be involved then maybe start buying domains.

thanks for the reply, but the fundamental question is that domains will be less available in 6 months times.

Welcome

Good advice above!

The question I suppose could be is it too late to become a domainer and the answer is definitely not. There is no question it is a lot harder now than in the past but that doesn't mean it's too late it just means you need to work hard to find out the best way of entering the market.

Don't rush in and buy domain names, instead study the business and go forward cautiously. A big mistake new domainers make (me included) is get romanced by the idea of buying something for £6 and selling it on for a massive profit, that is possible but not common.

There are many facets to domaining inc: buying good names, research, market trends, site development and of course selling the names which I guess is the goal but these skills are not learned over night.

Spending time on forums such as this is invaluable as you can get answers to questions you have, learn new techniques and skills and be around people who are actually doing what you want to do, in business you can't put a price on this information so lap it up and digest it before you part with your money.

Good Luck

Aiden

Don't get hung up on that question, you never know when the next opportunity will show itself.

Not really. You're almost certainly going to have to buy aftermarket names in any case to start building a decent portfolio - there's not much money left in free-to-reg names unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing and can carry the "risk" of many hundreds or thousands of renewal fees for domains that don't end up selling. Some people can (e.g. supported by existing cashflow from sales) but most can't afford that sort of commitment.

If you have £1,000 to spend (for example) you might be better off buying a couple of names at £500 each or one name at £1,000 where you can already see value and the possibility of an easy flip for a profit, rather than 150 £6 registrations that may go nowhere.

Will art be less available in six months time ?
will property ?
will antiques ?
will stocks ?
will classic cars ?
The market is now matured and far more complicated than it once was.

and it will be even more in six months I supose, my dilemma is whether to opt for a long term goal by developing some, or just quick term by flipping them over, but as you see one might not be able to do both or at least to crack this I need to have the domainer's right approach which I am still looking.

Domains will still be available, yes, what I guess you are asking is "will domains worth anything be less available in 6 months"

So what I say is there are 3 types or worth

a) worth something to you
b) worth something to someone else
c) worth something to everyone else

You need to have a think about that before buying names

For most with history in selling/buying domains - that does read as a strange initial question/statement but, I guess it's akin to asking anybody balancing or riding a byicle "But don't you fall-off" ?? - Yep sometimes !

I'm going to disagree with Edwin regarding investing in a "premium" domain as a starting point (Thats unless it was to become a development project) Just as easy to waste £500 as it is £5 if you don't know what your doing

Domains aren't about to diminish and new terms will continue to enter the market - The trouble for most newcomers is understanding why a certain term holds value (and indeed losses it - just as quick, occassionally)

There really is no short-cut to understanding the domain market
