Yep - I'm with Blossom, Very strange to see availibility of (term .net and .org) and a genuine high bid or purchase on the .com. 99.99999% sure thats a scammer - who actually could have covered his bases better by picking up the other major extensions - with different reg details. I will add that there is a "Chicken and Egg" situation inplay for any major intended usage for a domain (where the .com is the only registered domain) But, that dosen't come into play when it's An auction on "Public show" - unless the company intending a purchase is damn stupid. About 15-20 minutes work should give you all the answers you need to know

There are lots of ways of coming to a figure when you're researching a domain name. I'd probably not go and register domains after seeing a specific extension on auction at sedo without doing some major digging. On a side note, I saw a good sale figure for ski.co.uk (@80k), for example, and was wondering if sail.co.uk would be worth a similar amount? Can one relate similar extensions and niches? |

A good question viceroy. But most domains are infact sold at the sellers expectation level - Not the "balanced" value that the "market" dictates. You can obviously relate domain wording - but, you'd be equally flumuxed by the number of professional domainers - that don't don't know how to detatch themselves from a domain in their portfolio. (my baby syndrome) Most domainers that make constant sales are seen as bargain-makers to their buyers.(and that can be $xxx, xxx The domain itself is quite often a side issue as to value. I'm still lost as to why so many see traffic as a dictator - Of course it counts - but it leaves lots of space. And as you asked NO Ski* is worth 5x the value of sail - but that dosn't mean sail wouldn't/couldn't sell above Ski on a good day * the number of substitutes or possible substitutes - gives an answer to the basic metrics

I learnt a valuable lesson many, many years ago (thanks Mr Paul Cotton). The key to domain value is to hold A key-domain. And That can indeed be the plural the singular the .com the .net .org .co.uk. ( matching is a small art) Everything else is a waste of time and effort (not to mention renewal costs) That's a strickly resellers perspective - and in domains "second best is only fractionally above seventh best" If you own everything or more or less everything within a niche. How on earth do you expect to encourage speculation. (speculation is not a great word for what I mean - but it will suffice) Scam listings that we talked about above has no real reward - self delusion at work, However an end user should think about his domain buying strategy and be aware of the infomation thats out there in real time
