| Member | 2nd mistake, could have been worse
I backordered cxdf (.)com and forgot completely about it, it was the first time I tried the stuff, got an email earlier costing me $60, could have been worse as I had like 6 on the list, I went to quickly delete them, the thing is it kind of misled me somehow when i read that it was free to backorder...guess i am learning the costly way

Most sites are free to book the backorder/catch however, will charge you if they are successful. Don't worry we have all done it; I have had a few domains caught as they ended up on the wrong list. |

Me too! Early enthusiasm had me backordering all kinds of names and then getting involved in other parts of domaining subsequently forgetting about the backorders. Thankfully most of them were caught by somebody else or I would have been in for quite a lot of money. Take your time, create a plan and stick to it. Aiden

Like Ben said, we have all paid to learn these lessons. Hopefully lesson learnt and put it down to experience, but don't give up on the game though.

Yes they only charge you if they catch it for you, things is it's a matter of balancing, backorder low quality domains and it will cost you a fortune are they are likely to get caught but order only quality domains and it might not cost you much but the chances are you will never get any caught due to too much competition. Ask yourself this > Is likely I could reg the domain fresh once it's dropped ? if yes then don't book it, if no then ask yourself is it likely lots of others will try to catch it ? if yes then you're probably wasting your time however it doesn't hurt to try. Go for meduim level domains, .org.uks might give you a better chance of a decent generic. Good luck
