The only thing I'd watch out for is an over-optimisation penalty. I.e. mix the anchor text up a bit even if it's just using the target term and the brand. It's unnatural to have a profile with more keyword links than branded. You'll find that even if you submit 500 directories in one go, they won't all be accepted immediately and this will be staggered even more so as Google will discover each link at different times, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. As has been said before, you could just submit your competitor to thousands of directories rather than concentrate on your own profile, so I still see it as fairly low risk. The worst that can happen is the links are devalued. Be sure that directories are not *all* that you do though. |

Thanks again. Im also targetting article submissions over the coming weeks as these are good for the site as theuy come from authority sites that have relevance.

Me again. On a different thread, I've been analysing keywords and trying to drive traffic to my site using Adwords. Using the Google Keyword tool in Adwords I've discovered something that doesn't quite add up to me. For a specifc search term I rank top 5 which I think is pretty good. Google keyword analysis tells me that for that search term there are 550,000 local searches each month. Which is fantastic isn't it? Here's the rub......I don't get any traffic for that search term...doesn't make sense does it. WIth the volume of searches and a top 5 slot I should be seeing hundreds if not thousands of hits a month surely? RIght now I only get a handful. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? Cheers |

I can't see that that would make a difference. Under the keywords ideas list in the Adwords keywords tool this specific search term is listed with the Global and monthly local searches and it's claimed as 550,000 yet competition is low. If I go to Google search and type in that search term my site comes up top 5. Something doesn't seem right.

Now I see. Thanks. I switched from broad to exact and its now reading a measly 210 from 550,000, more in keeping with my actual hits.......can you explain what the difference is? Is it that the "broad" search finds many different variations and permutations of that search term...even if it's included in a larger search phrase?
