Transferring Domains Between Registrars

Thought this question may be useful to new domainers, hence posting here.

Have only ever transferred domains to buyers before, and have only ever had one registrar. But I've taken the momentous decision to move away from 123-Reg (yeah, I know...), so my question is this: when I transfer to another registrar, will present nameserver settings etc carry across, or will I have to specify them again (and suffer consequent downtime).

Any light shed on this would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike.

They should carry across with no need to enter them again (have done transfers to many different tags before, and never seen the need for this to be done).

In theory I guess a tag holder's system could change the nameservers by default, but I would be surprised if any of the major ones did. Best to double check by doing a WHOIS lookup after changing the tag.

Thanks for the reply.

Forgot an important piece of info: I've just acquired my own tag, so there'll be no systems, as such. From what you've said, I'm assuming that there'll only be a change if registrar systems specify... and since I don't have any systems, there'll be no change?

Cheers,
Mike.

In that case, correct.

I can't remember whether this is still an issue, but make sure the billing contract is cancelled at 123reg once you've made the Tag transfer. I think there have been issues in the past where people have been billed for domains they've tag transferred away from 123reg.
