Domain Investing For The u18s

Hey all, first post!

I didn't find a forum about 'Legal' and this is newbie questions, so I guess it goes in here?

Background information, I'm only 16 and was wondering what laws there are surrounding domain purchasing, and selling, in the UK. I already have a website and domain name, but thats in my Dad's name. Would it be legal for me to buy a domain name with a debit card and have it put in my name, for me to sell on for profit?

Thanks in advance, Will.

P.S I've found a nice domain name on eBay UK so if anyone has any tips for me about buying domain names on eBay that would be much appreciated aswell!

You can buy and sell domain names if you're under 18 but your Dad would have to sign the nominet transfer form when you sell.

I'd do alot of reading and researching on this forum before you start buying domains as it's increasingly difficult for newcomers to make money in the domain market without initial capital.

Good luck and don't waste your money!

Thumbs up

Thank you James, that was most helpful. I don't plan to go big on this, I just want to do it with one domain.

Could you recommend any tutorials that may be suitable for a complete beginner in domain 'investing' to start out?

Thanks again

You can't beat reading this forum inside out - I learnt what I know (not much mind you ) by doing that. Best of luck with it.

I'm 15 and have been domaining since I was 12 without any problems. Some domains I have in my Dad's name, but some in my own and it isn't a problem because the Nominet forms just require a guardian's signature when I sell.

I think I'm the youngest acorn member, but might be wrong. My 10 year old sister has domains too so I'm not the youngest I know!

Age can be a legal issue, however there are ways to work inside the law as an under 18 etc.

I do not see age as a barrier (old or young) with regards to the internet so good luck with domaining

As long as your parents are happy with supporting you, then there's no reason why you can't run a business, however, don't forget that you also need to get out and experience the real world while you are young

Thanks guys, very supportive

As I said, I'm not planning on going into this on a huge scale so I will definitely get out and about still! Who knows, with extra money floating around for me, I might get even further out! :P
