Thumbs up New networking site

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum. My friend have recently launched a new networking site for accountants, marketing, and small business professionals. The site has a unique domain name.

I wonder, how big of an impact can a unique domain name be in growing a site?

By the way, the site is http://www.schmoozii.com

Your friend's new domain and site has virtually zero chance of breaking into that space.

schmoozii is very web2.0 (schmoozing) but the target audience isnt. This mismatch will totally alienate the intended audience.

A site that offers no useful information on the landing page will discourage people to going any further. Why bother signing up to a site that I cant see the content to? When google will, within a few clicks, retrieve the information I am looking for.

The only other route would be to contact the likes of the IFA for endorsement.

I would say the networking arena must be one of the hardest to break into. Everyone knows xyz has been sold in the millions so everyone and their dog have tried for a slice.

Expect a hard slog

Agreed, starting an open forum is hard enough, but a site that proclaims so mcuh but WILL deliver so little (presuming here) and people know it hence why the sign ups will be low without a good sized marketing effort to counter that.

Make it open, free and get your professional mates to start talking on it, slowly it will grow, but it's a crowded sector - remember you must offer people something, whatever that may be.

Best of luck with it.

We were trying a facebook approach of signup

Facebook doesn't offer any free info does it?

So, if it worked for facebook in that approach of getting members to signup then it must be effective isn't it?

Please suggestions are most welcome. If you have a big point then by all means are we going to consider your suggestions...

All we are after now is growing this schmoozii.com at the fastest but effective possible way...

Hi steven07

Would open it up, let people navigate the site without the need to sign up.

Got an error 404 on this link e.g. http://www.schmoozii.com/Publish/Use...mode=marketing Am using IE7.
