![]() | .es domains Hi, Now that .es domains are now officially available to register (rather than pre-register) as from today what are people's opinions on these? I have pre-registered 10 or so generic names and personally see them as a pretty good bet if I get them of course |

![]() | I'll believe it when the DNS resolves, but there seem to be some great names available. Anyway thanks for the tip-off. I have interests in Spain and live there a lot of the time, but hadn't noticed the de-regulation. |

![]() | Since the deregulation only came in today, the registration of pre-registered names is taking place in stages: November 8th only .es domain names that begin with a number or character from "a" to "b" inclusive will be admitted. November 9th only .es domain names that begin with a number or character from "a" to "e" inclusive will be admitted after 7AM on this day. November 10th only .es domains that begin with a number or character from "a" to "n" inclusive will be admitted after 7AM on this day. November 11th all .es domains that are in accordance with the National Domain Name Plan will be admitted after 7AM on this day. Applications for names will be dealt with in the order that they are received. I would guess they will be busy clearing the backlog of pre-registrations until November 11th when there should be some "live" systems in place. |

![]() | I think a few are claiming to have live systems, but they are not. It also took a lot of searching to find the syntax rules, which I've broken with one name. I've tried for 5 and expect to get 2. |

However, regardless of the prefix - I'm getting either "available", "reserved" or "taken" as a responce. Anyone know why? |

![]() | For sure: Some will be taken as these domains have been available to register for years provided you were a business or organisation based or incorporated in Spain that had TM rights (or similar) for the domain you wanted. My guesswork: Some will be reserved as your registrar probably already has someone else ahead of you in the queue who has submitted a pre-registration request. Some will be available as there isn't anyone who has pre-regged it with your registrar. Although, that's not to say someone else hasn't with another registrar. I pre-registered a list of 20 names about 2 months ago so I'm hoping my "early bird" strategy will pay off If you are frustrated already then I think you are going to reach boiling point in the future as there are many differences in the way things work in Spain to here in business. Get ready for some fun and games, although no pain no gain! |

![]() | I just checked a few .es registrars but it says must be resident or a company located in spain. is that correct, or is there a way around it ??. DG |

However if you are dealing with anything in Spain it always pays to have a Spanish NI number. This is because they are prone to look down their noses at us, because we are a backward country with no ID cards and a quaint currency. | |
