    Hi Guys,

It seems that Bulldog breeding (and dog breeding in general) is a worthwhile niche to pursue.

Not sure of the commercial value.

    Any thoughts please?

    OK, since you asked ...

You won't gain much business advantage as a bulldog breeder by owning this name. In fact, you need a distinctive name instead so you can build a reputation.

That leaves site development. Any site would get traffic, because people want to find bulldog breeders. However, making significant money from the site would be difficult. It will be low traffic. Best way would be directory advertising, but I think bulldog breeders would probably be loath to pay as they will get business from other channels. So, the domain doesn't have significant revenue potential.

Overall then I would say this is a low value domain. I hope you appreciate the honest opinion.

Good luck with it though, and always happy to be proven wrong if you make a good sale!

We've been looking for a pair of cats and found FB to be our first point of reference, we didn't need to search Google for a breeder and would have avoided anyone with a generic sounding name as it sounds like a breeding farm.

Potentially a good traffic niche, with Adsense earning potential. People looking for breeders are probably first time owners - with lots of learning to do about the process and Bulldogs and their health / lives in general.

Probably won't sell to an end user, but has development potential if it's a niche you're interested in.

When people say "it's got development potential" you should really quantify that.

I would say you could probably build a site where you charged around £30 to bulldog breeders to list. You would probably find 10 to 15 business people willing to list, maybe as a yearly subscription. So, let's say £450 a year.
However, it would be better do set up a site that could cover all breeds.

Plus you are against existing sites and the Kennel Club.
So, I would say "development potential" is quite modest, although there is some there.

    Good luck with it. :)

Like the others have said, the value lies in a developed site but... Developing takes time and ranking isn't as easy as it used to be.

Ive had dog related sites in the past and speaking from experience they were not the best earners. The vast majority of your visitors would be from people looking to buy a dog, so promoting relevant affiliate products would be kind of (but not totally pointless) plus dog products are pretty cheap so the commission earned would be minimal. I think if i remember correctly the Commission rate for pet products at Amazon is around 6 or 7% (dog leads are about £10+, so you would need to sell a heck of a lot of dog leads to make it worth while). You could promote dog insurance companies hoping for the odd lead, but again most people wont actually have a dog to insure at the point of which they are using your site.

Im not meaning to come across as negative, sure you could make a few quid, but its a lot of work for little reward.

Should be dontbuyabulldog, I have one and so much hard work. Cleaning tear stains, they have webbed feet which need cleaning, cleaning their ears, you even have to wipe their ass. They fart something which if aliens smelled it, they would nuke us from space. They need a specific diet, loads of allergies to things and insurance is about £1500 a year, and they need it.

There are lots of information you could put on there, and cross sell the items they need, insurance, harness, food, cleaning products, etc etc, but not sure bulldog breeders is the best name, but still lots of content and selling potential.

If you have a wider portfolio of products in the niche there could be indirect value to a set up and leave type site listing bulldog breeders, but in this scenario I'd list breeders for free. Tbh it's probably not worth the bother being this specific.

A site about bulldogs with a section on breeders could be worth doing if you have one, have a decent knowledge and are also integrated into the bulldog social media community. If you have no connection to bulldogs I probably wouldn't bother.

Or a site about dog breeders in general, also possibly worth doing (but only as a side project, can't ever seeing it making you your millions). But it's just too specific as it is.

We've actually looked at this model many times in various niches and unless you're doing it on a large scale with a well established site it's just not worth the bother, especially for a few hundred a year (or even a few grand). Once you take into account administration and sales costs you're actually better off on a free model with adsense.

Yes. I think the main issue is that the paid listing model has been severely impacted by how good all the free listings are now, e.g. Google My Business, Facebook etc. 10 years ago, dedicated websites were the only way to get seen, now you have lots of good free options.

People love to say "development potential", but really they should say how much development potential something has.

The other way to monetise a domain is to think if you can produce an information product and sell that to people. In this case, it would be how to set up a bulldog breeding business I guess.

It would be better though to set up a generic "How to Set Up a Business as a Dog Breeder" information product and sell that. That probably has some potential although I've never tried something like this.

The other area you could consider is YouTube. If you combined "How to Set Up a Business as a Dog Breeder" with informational videos about breeders working with various breeds, those videos would get views in my opinion. They would be ideal for people thinking of buying a dog. Then you may be able to attract big advertisers, e.g. dog food manufacturers, pet insurance etc, then you might make some money.

I think one of the problems with domaining is it can act as a distraction from a business model that actually has more potential than just selling the domains.

    Rgds

It's really sad that dogs are bread purely to look a certain way with no real care about their quality of life

I remember my friend having a bulldog puppy, I swear it could barely walk, you would lightly pat it on its side and it would almost fall over, died at 8 months old sadly.

She also had a pug, could barely breath the poor thing

    It's very sad.

there is a breeding program to fix most of the bulldog issues but owners keep buying the more deformed ones. I think the "new" version is the Bulldogge, and its looking more like its former self. Mine is at 9 yrs old now, most last til 6-7, this sucker ain't going now here.

You should look at what they did to the German Shepherd, at crufts they even call it "frogdog" because of what they have done to its back legs (making it look more frog like) many of them can't even stand up.

    Eugenics at work :(
