.htaccess

I tried uploading a .htaccess file into the directory for a site I've just uploaded which is an add on domain in my hosting package. I already have another .htaccess file in another directory for another site which is also an add on domain. For some reason it won't let me upload the new .htaccess file without overwriting the other, which I don't want to do.. any ideas?

I just changed the URL to make the different .htaccess files, are they correct?

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.dressupgamesforgirls.org.uk/$1 [R=301,L]

Not sure I understand your question but whenever I upload a new .htaccess, I rename the existing one first just in case something breaks

Sorry didn't know how to word it. I have 2 domains as 'add on' domains on my hosting account, and both have htaccess files in their respective directories. Well only one has a htaccess at the moment as it wants to overwrite the first one with the second, despite them being in different directories? Don't know if that's any clearer..

But if I rename the first one will it then cease to do it's job?

There really should be no reason why it is doing this...

I have some hosting structured exactly the same as what your doing and each directory/site has its own .htaccess with no problems.

I cant see how it would try to overight something that isnt even in the same directory?

Are you using the hosting uploader or your own ftp client?

Just use a proper ftp client, as mat said there's no reason why it should be doing what it is.
