On a lower resolution screen, there are NO organic results above the fold any more.

I guess this is going to happen in niche after niche, market after market, as Google becomes the world's largest super-affiliate...

Wow, how long will search users out up with Google like this?

I think its appeal was its simple interface with no adverts but now Google is deciding to throw adverts at you before showing the real results.

Maybe all Affiliates should stop using Google in protest lol

I was watching a US program similar to "You've Been Framed" (can't remember the name of it )

It was refreshing to hear them refer to having "Binged" a subject instead of Googled it

The problem is affiliates probably make up less than 1% of search volume. Maybe though we should brainstorm and start a revolt. Some sort of petition never to use Google again. Base the backlash on its anti-competitive behaviour, mad algo updates and generally destroying natural search. just my 2 cents. The only thing with that is if we don't manually check our SERPS then SEOmoz or Market Samurai will be giving them the impressions anyway!

Im sure with our great minds we can get something going viral though!

Needs a day of cordinated action with some big sites on board. Something like the blackout in relation to the anti censorship that happened.

It's abit like the arbitrage days of old, another traffic shifter door is closing.

No one can say they didn't see this coming.

Yep. They've also got the benefit of years of conversion data so they'll be able to very quickly optimise their campaigns for success. It's going to be a 2 second job to switch around their comparison ads for the top ppc ads when/if they determine their total income will go up.

The writing was on the wall when Frederick Vallaeys tipped his hand and stated that affiliates were '…just an unnecessary step in the sales funnel.' He should have qualified it by saying [except where google is the affiliate].

If they can compete with the paid listings, thats the best chance they have of squeezing what little arbitrage exists (ppc cost V conversion value) to the point at which 'they' maximise the value of every commercial search.

The latest seo update, had the rather serendipitous effect (if you believe in coincidences ;) to remove the arbitrage that exists between the cost of seo V the cost of ppc. If you keep changing the rules then it's very difficult to invest in seo in competitive industries not knowing when or even if you'll ever get a positive ROI.

I think for it to really work the major networks would have to get behind and then try and get microsoft or yahoo on board.
Imagine if the big affiliate networks and say microsoft teamed to finance replacing every add there serve with an add to an info page and link to replace the google toobar with bing toolbar or something

I presume you mean put up but I don't get what you mean.

They look like decent results to me.

Much better than the exact-match .org.uk with 5 pages of text and adsense which became the norm for this kind of search phrase.

An affiliate boycott would be Google's secret dream scenario. Imagine not having to compete against those who "game" the SERPS for a living!

Mini-sites were on life support before, but they're as dead as the proverbial now...

Was that really the norm though. In my experince big players like moneysupermarket, uswitch and the like dominated the serps for these sort of terms
Is google adding more value than these affiliate sites dosent look like to me.
