    Hi all

I have a new site design that I want to deploy. The issue I have is that the h1/h2/h3 tags don't match up with the old design - how much of an issue will this be from an SEO perspective?

My current site ranks very well in a competitive niche - so im bit a worried about making the switch.

    Anyone else been through this?
    Cheers

    Why don't you restyle them?

I only ever use the h1, never bother with h2 onwards, and I'm not sure it makes any real difference anyway.

But that being said, if your rankings are good then I probably wouldn't want to mess with anything so just style them to fit the new design?.

The style/design of HTML tags is irrelevant from one design to another.

HTML is for layout, CSS is for styling, they should be kept completely seperate.

If the 'heading tags' have inline styling atached to them then this is wrong, just remove it and restyle to your new design using CSS in a seperate style sheet.

Also it is best to include all heading tags (h1, h2, h3, etc) this helps Google bots read the page and understand the importance of the content, much like you would put sub-heading in a document to help the reader understand it easier.

I thought G liked inline styling especially on above the fold content, less overhead etc?

Nothing to do with 'G' liking it or not, it's just not right to inline style as it's alot harder to maintain, hence the issue that the original poster was having.

You cannot overwrite inline CSS from an external style sheet, so imagine if you had a load of inline styles accross multiple pages, it could take hours to update it all, where if it was all in an external stylesheet it would take minutes.
