There must be many people new to domaining that visit this site and find lots of useful info about its various aspects. There are some great threads here such as the legendary 'Making a website earn £1 per week', so maybe it'd be a good idea to have a similar one about one of the most basic aspects of dominaing... building links.

I suspect this'd be really useful to new members, and I'm happy to admit it'd be very useful to me too, even though I'm not quite a greenhorn. I've learned alot so far, but I'm betting I have much more to learn.

So... how do we place links? What is an effective link? How should we research what's effective?

Hopefully a discussion on this will benefit us all, not just the newbies.

Of course I'd better start...

A good tactic is to find what sites link in to related/competitor sites, and to try to find links there.

For instance, if your site was on 'quad bikes' you could investigate what inlinks the site www.quantumquads.co.uk has by using the 'site:' command on either Google or Yahoo Search.

Typing 'site:www.quantumquads.co.uk' into these secrch engines gives the following results:

Google

Yahoo

Voila! Lists of sites that may accept link requests. One thing to remember, though, is that incuding and not including 'www' at the start may give different results, so it's worth trying both.

The optimum way to build links is to build a site with content strong enough that it attracts links naturally. If you can build your site in a good subject area and write great unique content, people will hopefully link to it all by themselves.

Agreed but many sites won't naturally attract a decent enough volume of links so need pushing along.

Consider the following to get you started:

Directory Submissions - Not 1000's a few hundred free submissions, and a few choice paid submissions will do it.

Article submissions - I usually link in the author credits to the homepage and one or two deep pages.

You also want to make your link structure appear as natural as possible, so a remember to vary your anchor text a fair amount.

Another way of link building is writing articles and blogs having links in it. and distributing fee ebooks(with links) also will help.

Hi all, I am new to this site. but i seen this post and, well , my question is about building incoming links-but to parked pages on sedo.


Is it ok for me to link my parked pages with free online link directorys.

And then is that link classed as an incoming link to my parked page?


Some parked domains have hundreds-even thousands of incoming links from google msn etc. Where are they getting the incoming links from and are they legal with sedos policys?

Are they from free online directories etc? im not sure whats ok to link to and whats not

Any help appeciated. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know historical links are classed as natural traffic, if you make your own links to a parking page is against TOCs, but thinking about it, I have no idea how they would ever know the difference.

I know that submitting stories/articles to social bookmarking sites can only be effective in link building provided that the sites use dofollow tag. But if not, it's only useful for traffic generation...
