I know the threads "How do you build backlinks" have been done over and over on numerous forums but most of them are old so I thought I'd ask around here. Understandably there are hundreds of ways, each with people preaching their method is the best. Personally for me I've tried the following methods (in no particular order) to build backlinks...
That's all I can think of now, what about you?

Quite an effective method (depending on the site I suppose) is to use Yahoo siteexplorer to see what sites are linking to your competitors websites. If they are directories / sites of a similar nature that you could get a link from, this works quite well in some cases. Directory submission is probably the easiest but as you say sometimes doesn't give great results. Personally I think blog commenting is best - especially if you can find blogs on authority sites! |

Other than simply ignoring the submission guidelines, they are now usually supplying worthless reciprocal pages that aren't linked from the submitted site. This, together with the massively increased submission count, has increased my workload and decreased my tolerance to the point where I now look at new submissions with a viewpoint that I'll probably be deleting them. Where a few months ago I erred on the side of approving (on-topic) links, I now err on the side of deleting them, and I've probably deleted a few legitimate submissions. I'm sure other directory owners are feeling much the same as I do. | |

I tried linkmarket link exchange and now closed my account. The reason is I get request and requested about 10 sucessful links then after a week how many of my links do I see on the 10 sites ? a big fat ZERO. Which make me sick, can't belive there are so many of these ****s around that only wants to take and not give. I will stick to approaching webmaster direct or in forum, at least they're a bit more trustworthy.
