![]() | Sub-domain versus sub-folder for feed driven site
Here's a question I have come up against a few times.... Scenario - Have a WP blog with a decent level of unique content, reviews etc, aged domain, ranks for name, some related terms and plenty of long-tail... If I then want to spoil it all with a feed driven affiliate "shop" - using xml feeds so no chance of unique content, thousands of pages so potentially a killer for the SEO. Where would you put it ? I'm thinking sub-domain so as to keep the two separate, and not spoil the existing profile the aged site has... Of course this doesn't give the sub-domain site pages as much chance of ranking as if it was on a sub-folder but in these post Panda days maybe it wouldn't anyway.

my experience of having wp sites with varied, good, unique content, aged site, etc is that they remain good for their ranking with affiliate feed generated pages. I've got plenty on P1 1 of goog that fit the above and have kept their ranking status over the last few years despite all the algo update shite. Having said that I've also got a few that didn't pass muster & got sacked with goog, but still get traffic through long tail terms and make me a few quid. Wordpress sites IMO will either work brilliantly or Okish with aff feeds. I can't fathom any pattern since I have obscure niche sites > everyday thing sites and tbh I don't fret as long as they all make something on a monthly basis. I don't think you need to use a sub domain for the aff stuff, infact I think that would be a red flag to goog. Good luck in your endevours, pm me if you have any Qs |
