![]() | domain extensions & SE's
Hi, I've been doing quite alot of reading on SEO and Im still unsure about the domain extension and relevancy in Google. I found one book, that talks about how bad .info and .cc are regarding SEO. However I cant find any information from google that confirms this. As long has its using geo tags and google webmaster tools for geo setting, im sure it doesnt matter. http://domainate.wordpress.com/2011/...ns-and-google/ http://domainnamewire.com/2011/10/06...tion-about-co/ I know i dont see many strange tlds in SERPs, but is anyone really optimising them like co.uk, org.uk and .com Id be interested in your thoughts, and any tlds oddities in SERPs that you may have come across |

.co.cc domains were removed completely from the index half way through the year: http://www.seroundtable.com/co-cc-go...val-13644.html TLDs like .cc and .tk appear to be a hotbed from spammy crap and therefore should be avoided. I've seen .info and .biz TLDs ranking ok but experience suggests that they are more difficult to rank than traditional TLDs such as .co.uk, .com, .org etc. They just seem to be more trusted by search engines. There was an example a while back of .info being purged briefly too: http://www.seobook.com/google-tempor...o-domain-names I'd personally never use anything other than a .co.uk or a .com for a brand but mostly because that's what end users know. |

"Cheap extensions are a lightning rod for spammy sites" (and Google of course doesn't like spam) and... "The truth is, they may not directly bias against TLDs, but factors like domain and site age are factored into their algorithm. New TLDs have disadvantages in both compared to established sites/domains in other extensions." Obviously .biz doesn't really hurt much from the age factor, but newer internationally-released extensions like .co and .me would. SEOMoz and some others have generally indicated that com/net/org are superior internationally and .co.uk, .org.uk, .de and the like are superior in their respective regions. That's not to say it's impossible to rank other extensions but you'd be attempting it at a disadvantage.
