Domain Leasing

Just a quick question for Sedo, any plans to launch a domain leasing service. I've had a few offers through sedo for sale of a few domains but would rather lease them to the potential buyer.

It would be great to counter an offer from a buyer with "Would you rather rent the domain?"

Obviously not all buyers would go for it, but I'm sure that domain leasing will be on the rise in the next 5 years or so in the UK.

Just a thought

Graeme

Lease with an option to buy at the end of it may be tempting to the market.

Which is exactly what I did with one domain last month, however it was also ranking which gave it most of it's added value.

this is one area I thought sedo was looking into, but seems to have died.

how did this work? I thought on a change of nameserver (which I am guessing is what happend to 'move' the domain) the ranking would be lost.

A change of name servers does not effect the sites ranking.
The domain name servers get updated for the during of the lease and they have an option to buy outright after 3 years in this case.

Did you set the price in the lease agreement as signed, or is there a predetermined way of working it out in 3 years time?

Option to buy is the way to go. Cash flow is critical in business, and what business wants to 'invest' in a domain brand to then later see the domain taken away by the owner? None that I know of.

I would say a three to five years lease with the buy option at the end, or a new lease option at the end with a buy option attached to that new lease....so on and so forth.

Much like property free and leaseholds in London.

Yes, monthly fee agreed and end purchase price stated in the contract which is an option to buy after the end of the 36 monthly payments.
