Offers on Parked Domains

I have a question,

Why do people park domains, put them for sale using make offer and then not respond to offers.

Why don't they add in an asking price if they no roughly how much they want or at least reply saying what the asking price is??? Whats the point of listing it for sale if its not?

Couldn't Sedo monitor this and perhaps make people who do not respond to offers to either remove the domain from sale or add in a minimum offer value.

Bit annoyed because three offers have been ignored each time I doubled the offer and sent comments, but still no response. They weren't even small offers all £1k or above, which surely should have shown that I wanted the domains.

Yep ,perhaps sedo should make it a rule that users have to put "a" minimum price and without that it wont accept the listing. That way it would give an indication of whether you are in the same ballpark and save all parties time !!.
I see no downside to that suggestion.

Cool domain price

Sedo I asume, is only working according to their published rules, I find it best to put £2000 for min offer, 1. it stops silly offers, which sedo would have to pass on to me if I had offers. 2. if someone was really keen for domain at say £600 they would contact me direct with offer and chance it. Very easy to contact domain owner if serious.
Most people have to wait and see if parking takes off and my prefer income, I hope my wwwsedopro.co.uk does it for me...z

Hi Guys,

I can understand how this would be frustrating to potential and serious buyers. Oftentimes, those who put domains for sale but do not respond to offers do so because they tend to have thousands of domains listed, and the offers are not high enough for them. Other times, it may just be a case of having too many emails. I've spoken to several mid to large size domain owners, and they often tell me that emails get lost for potential sales quite often, even from us directly (not to mention Sedo automated emails alerting them to the fact that they have a bid). We are in the process of really revamping the entire marketplace, and these changes should be coming online fairly soon. In the meantime, your best bet would be to contact broker@sedo.co.uk if you have had no luck contacting a domain owner through Sedo, despite several reasonable offers.

I'm one of those who has decided to ignore the £100 bids. The bidder knows that after commission the seller gets £30. In the past I used to go back with a counter bid but it's a timeconsuming and pointless exercise.

I don't want to put up min prices for our domains as a potential bidder may believe that the min bid is close to the asking price and the domains value may change over time i.e. it becomes a major search term.

I've asked sedo in the past to allow us to cancel a bid immediately i.e. "your bid is unacceptable" but they still want us to counterbid even when the offer is derisory. I do have an alternative and that is for an owner to be able to put up a min bid level across the whole portfolio. i.e. "the owner of this domain has a min bid level across his/her whole portfolio of domains at sedo of £500".

It's equally frustrating when an offer or enquiry comes in and when I draft a response it comes speedily back as a bounced email.

These are more often the ones that look like genuine offers/enquiries.

I think in this case the seller might be on an ego trip.....

I offered 10k for a domain and still ignored

I offered £100 for one and he came back with £1 million so increased my price to £101....£1 million...thats ego

Hi Lee

I don't think you'll find this guy was on an ego trip. It was simply his way of getting the domain cancelled from his screen with, I guess, a bit of satisfaction (I assume he cancelled after your next bid of £101). I used to go back with £10k counter bids after a £100 bid but I didn't even know sedo allowed a counter bid of £1m - now thats an idea

Seriously though - you can't expect to bid £100 and be taken seriously - not unless the seller is a kid who'd be happy for £30 pocket money (i.e. £100 minus Sedo commission). Try putting your domain portfolio up for sale and wait for the £100 bids on caribbean cruises etc and you'll soon be hitting the £1m button.

I agree though that is extremely churlish to ignore a £1000 bid, unless, of course that it was for a very special one word generic and the buyer has been inundated with low ball offers.

The Domain was a typo that had good traffic, Appears to have been moved off sedo now to namedrive.

Whats the best way of getting in contact with the domain owner, even if he doesn't want to sell it I would be interested in renting it from him for a few months at what ever his click through revenue is plus a little bonus..

Should I just send a letter to his whois address???
