![]() | Sedo's Great Domain Auctions
Does anyone have any experience of Sedo's Great Domain Auctions? I have a few domains that they'll take but at low reserves. Can anyone comment on successes/failures when it comes to them promoting domains? I guess with any auction, to get a good price, you need at least 2 serious bidders to get the full value. The names I'm thinking of listing are: ![]() I think that if the top two domains were sold at only the reserve that they want I'd be a bit sad. Any thoughts on the reserves that I should be happy with?

I have used the auctions frequently (had 3 that finished last thursday, one sold about 30% above reserve 2 didn't reach reserve). I find Sedo's reserves are always a lot less than you would like, I've had several sell for way in excess of the reserve (more than I expected to get) but I've had several several sell at the reserve (not so happy about) and some that don't reach the reserve (nothing lost and at least tested the market). It really is a gamble with surprises both ways. I think the commission may have gone up to 15% now (can't remember if was coming in August or September) so I'd say be prepared it could sell at the reserve and treat it as a bonus if it goes higher. If you really can't bear to part with it at reserve less commission then my advice would be try another method. Dave |

I haven't sold but I do buy quite often inc one last week, and one the month before too. I check every month, so do most the people I know. I have also contacted not met reserve sellers to try and negotiate after too. So it def shines a light on your name, assuming that helps.

Thanks RB and Skinner. Very helpful - I think I'll put them in. The exposure is something that would be worth it, and I guess I'll either keep my fingers crossed for a few serious bidders on each name. I'll also try and reach out to people who may be interested and give them the auction link. Do you know if when these names are in the auction if either Sedo or GD, reach out to potential end users (or are these names too small-fry?) What price would you be happy letting each of the 4 go for?

Unless you have specific end user buyers interested in the domain(s), you'll find Sedo auctions mostly attracting the wholesale domainer market. So save on the fees and sell on Acorn (that is if your happy with selling into the wholesale market).

![]() | I agree with that, I have also seen loads of auctions that haven't reached reserve etc which had had higher offers on acorn!

If you are still looking for £15k for your names as i have seen in other posts i think you will be very disappointed at the Sedo auction. I think you would be lucky to get £5k on a very good day more like £2.5.

![]() | Good luck, i have found Sedo to be inconsistent with their quality standard and crazy with their reserves sometimes, as has been mentioned on here, you would probably get a better price on here.

I recently submitted a dictionary and product term .net domain with exact 8,000 local us searches and they denied it. I checked their approved list and they had 6 letter made up words. That just proves their quality standard. Avoid them unless you want to sell your domain cheap. And once your domain is denied, you can't apply for any other auctions after that. |
